Dryer sheets are a wonderful solution as long as the perfumes don't get to you. For me a much better solution is crumbled up newspaper or lumps of charcoal. Can you tell that perfumes are dynamite for me?

Donna B:
Karla, are you still watching and bidding on Ebay?  There are so many nice machines out there at the $300-400 range, I am sure you will find the perfect one for you.

I've been watching but not bidding the last few days...used my winnings for home improvements (and lots of fabric) instead, so now must wait until next month to spend more or somehow win some more.

Agnes, me too!  I have a lot of problems with scented products.  That is why I used unscented...just about everything.  But, if it will help with the mildew smell, I think I could deal with it...if its only inside the case.

We'd been watching for probably three month before we really started bidding.  I think that is a good idea so you have a better idea when you see a good price for a good machine.  Good Luck!

I have a featherweight also with a musty case I had it out in the sun, used cleaning products on it etc. it always returns to musty smell I'm going to try the dryer sheets or maybe even a scented candle if that doesn't help I'll be buying a new case for it.

Try spraying the inside of the case with Lysol spray.  It will kill mildew and molds and may help remove the continued odor.

I just got an order from   www.novamontgomery.com .  I got extra bobbins, feet for bottom of machine, new belt, and a great seam guide.  The seam guide is plexiglass and attaches if you have the 2 holes in bed of machine.  Really nice.  I'm having so much fun with this.

Diana, if you don't see my comment in the other thread, I'm hoping you'll post a picture of your new plexiglass seam guide.

Nancy,   My digital camera is on the fritz so can't show a pic.  There is a pic in the site.  It's 2 3/4 inch wide and 6 inches long.  It has a slot where the screws go.  The screws are included.  You attach it with the screws, move it sideways til you have it where you want and tighten screws (not too tight).  It really is working great.  The price was very reasonable too.  I ordered my things on Wed. and it was delivered on Sat.

My accessories for my new/old FW arrived this week, so here are pictures for you:

First order was from Discount Sewing Machines  www.sewingmachines221sale.com .  I have to say they weren't too prompt in the shipping, ordered on the 12th and shipped on the 17th, but everything was received, well packaged and in good order. The order includes the Maintenance Kit I had been looking for.  I also included, 2 lightbulbs,  10 bobbins for $4.95 (which would be 49.5 cents each...keep that thought)...and got free shipping.

This next order from www.suncatcher-tx.com was made on the 5/17/13.  It includes a drip pan felt (wanted to have a spare on hand),  a seam guide similar to what Diane got, plus 4 more bobbins at 4 for $1.50 (which would be 37.5 cents each...cheaper than my 1st order).  So, if you are looking for bobbins, this might be the best buy!  (I haven't tried them yet, but I will let you know if they fit properly and work ok.)

Here is a picture of my seam-guide on my FW:

Both orders arrived on the same day via USPS...Monday the 20th...

Donna

Turn your seam guide with the writing toward the back of your machine and it shouldn't hang over the edge like it is now.

OK, ladies and gentlemen,   I think I started something.  I've got another Featherweight on it's way to my house.  One wasn't enough so I bought another....lol   Would you believe I was on Etsy and they have featherweights for sale on there.  I didn't know that either.    I'm trying to figure out where I can put the treadle machine in my living room and then I can use it to put the other Featherweight on.  OK, I know I'm a bit crazy now.....but what the heck.  No kids or anything so I may as well spend it while I'm here and enjoy it myself.

Congrats, Diana!!  You got another one so when friends come to sew you have a machine for them to use.  (I can rationalize anything as long as it has to do with sewing and quilting.) Way to go.  I'll be down in three weeks.  Will you be bringing her to the retreat?
