I am in the process of making the Ozark star and I am having some problems.
This is my first time working with pyramid and triangle shapes and pieces.
Any tips to how to sew these two shapes together so the points show up?
Should I cut my dog ears off after I sew each pair of shapes together?
Any and all help is appreciated.
I always trim dogears. It is much easier to get pyramid shape points to show up if your pattern includes the template with the dog ears nipped off before sewing. I have found the triangle and pyramid rulers invaluable for this if just using rulers and have no templates to guide me. I am stating generalities because I don't buy magazines or patterns any longer.

i almost always trim my dogears.
I usually trim them away.
I trim dogears as they add unnecessary bulk around the seams. Just like Agnes said, using the templates really helps to have sharp points. I can't wait to see it done!

I have gotten rid of the dog ears but, I think I have another issue. My seams are not matching up well. I may have to re- cut some of my units.
I also wanted to know if you press the seams to the dark or did you press them open?
i use the dog ears to line up my pieces and trim them after sewing.
