EAT!! SLEEP !! QUILT!!
Are you piecing by hand or machine? I'm not a fan of Gutterman thread and the only thread I've never been able to find the weight on their spool. Aurifil is a great brand, but my favorite is Presencia 60/2 or 50/3. The 60/2 is a thin, very strong 2 ply thread that helps with an accurate seam -- stronger than some of the 50 wt. threads that are on the market because of the twist. I use YLI Select for hand piecing. It's a 40/2 (not to be confused with quilting thread 40/3) and does not tangle. The downside is that it's difficult to find and doesn't come in a lot of colors.
Check you needle size and are you wanting thread for machine or hand quilting?

Jane, I've heard very good things about this thread, but as you said, it's difficult to find... at least in my small town.

I love Presencia as well. I first got it as a sample in my QCA welcome package. My LQS now sells it so I don't have to order online. I like the 60/3 or hand piecing and the 50/3 for machine piecing. I like it over Aurifil because of the three ply to Aurifil's two.
The 50wt comes in a ton of colours. Try Red Rock Threads.
