Had lots of family in for dinner.  Everyone contributed with bringing food.  Had a great afternoon.   Then took a nap.   Hope everyone has had a great Mother's Day.

Frances, thanks for the pics of part of your garden, just beautiful!  You have your hands full caring for 15 fruit trees plus.  What do you do with the fruit besides pies?  The strawberrys must taste heavenly.  My husband used to love strawberry rhubarb pie, do you make those?  I'd love to see a pic of your greenhouse?

Today, I'm beginning to recuperate from yesterday's Mother's Day BBQ.  I'm thankful for my sons-in-law who took over the BBQ'ing after they arrived.  The prime rib was delicious (my favorite) and the company was great, all children and grandchildren were here.

I put together a hanging planter for the neighbor whose daughter died a couple of years ago and whose son never seems to remember Mother's Day, and bought a card for a special friend, and had everyone here sign it, and the 3 boys take it over to her.  She called me a little later to thank me for my thoughtfulness and she was in tears.  She said we seem to be the only ones who ever remember her on this day.  My youngest GS came back and said that she thinks we upset Karen because she was crying.  I told him she was just crying because she was happy.  Later that day, her sister and nieces and nephews came over and spent the afternoon with her.

We had a power outage that lasted for over 3 hours, so we spent the afternoon outside as the temp in the house became hotter than the 90 degrees outside.  Power company says the wind caused some power lines to fall, although we are only a block away and we didn't experience any wind yesterday.  Oh well, everyone needs excuses I guess.  I'm just thankful that all of my meal was done on the grill, except for the beans that were in the crock pot and they were already done and managed to stay quite hot through the entire time.

Elaine, how was your trip to Florida?

my cousin decided he wanted to bar b que,for the family, so my auntie #3 hosted Mother's Day.  All of my mom's siblings and most of us cousins were there, plus a few extra tag alongs. The food was great, the company better, the weather was perfect ( which means the rain held off until we got home). A good day.

Marie,

The fruit trees are no hassle they are the least problem thing, last year no fruit at all very bad year had late frost and that destroyed the blossom, but this year looks good so far. Most of the time we freeze the fruit i make a crumble with it or apple cake. The strawberrys never last long enough to go in a pie they normally go on my cereal for breakfast, although this year i have planted double the strawberrys that we had before. We have 2 greenhouses and previously we grew about 20 - 25 heritage tomato plants but this year we will only do about 10 four have already been planted and i am waiting for the rest to be delivered, I will take a picture a bit later of the greenhouses when there is something to photograph.

lots of love
