Good Morning all!

More snow this AM, but I thik we might be seeing the end of it ( for now). The sky doesn't look as heavy and the light seems warmer out there.

Leslie, thought you should know that Sprout is in on the act too. As I scrolled through un-read posts, I had him on my lap. When I got to the Spring Chick and her loverly red posies, he raspberried.

There's no doubt that Spring is on the fast track for us. Back in Dec we learned that we had qualified for weatherization assistence. They said they'd have it done by Christmas. A crew  came and installed a chimney liner and then left, so I presumed that was what we got. Then in mid-Feb, Dh got a call saying they would be here "to finish up". No one showed up. Then in March he got another call saying they'd be here Easter week. We re-arranged plans  and stayed home. No one showed up. Yesterday he called and said they were on thier way.  My plans went out the window again... I didn't really expect them to arrive, but amazingly, 2 hours after they said they'd be here, they pulled into the driveway with a big van loaded down with stuff. ( It was a little hard to be gracious under those circumstances.)

I wasn't quite sure what they were supposed to be doing when they got here. Somehow, no one thought to include us in that plan... 'Seems we are getting insulation in the walls and attic, and a new door.Surely winter is over if I am getting insulation installed. They are cutting holes in DD's walls to access they attic, which has her in a tizzy. I'm actually excited about it as one of my goals is to possibly turn that space into another small room. right now it is sheetrocked over so we can't even use it for storage, which I think is a major waste. I'm not too keen on the new door. The one they want to replace is old and drafty, but it is also the only source of light in the hallway, and they plan to replace it with one that has no window. That is a problem.  Should be an interesting day at anyrate!

Leslie, enjoyed the pics of the bleeding hearts and flowering crab.  Are those tulips or irises coming up behind the tree?  Did you get your hair cut shorter or is it just pulled back?  It looks nice!

CC, congrats on the warm house installation package.  Funny they kept the details from you. Can you ask, if you offered to make up any difference in cost, if you could select an insulated door with a window in place of the plain solid one?

Gee Leslie, somehow those pictures of the bleeding hearts and flowering quince didn't automatically come to my in box--- oh, and the beautiful self portrait of you enjoying your out of doors. Saw them when I went on line to answer another message.  I hate when that happens- and it happens too often lately.    Ginny

That's not true! If It were up to me, I'd be sending you sunshine! Besides... I spoke too soon. It's snowing on us again, too. :(

Well, I don't think they actually kept any details from me. They just all assumed it was someone else's job to pass them on.

I did ask about the door. Their thinking is that if I can afford to pay the difference to get the door I want, then I clearly have too much money to qualify for the program, so I forfiet the  deal.  And, It would seem that the contract states that if I don't accept the door that they pick out for me, then I forfeit the whole deal. At least  they are getting me a door designed to be modified at a later date.  The sweet guy that is actually doing the work said he'd install a peephole (on the sly) for me if I bought it. He'd probably do a window too, but his boss can see that from the street when he drives by to make sure the crew is here doing the work, and I don't wanna get him fired. So....I'll just have to schmooze someone else to install glass later. *sigh*

We live in a manufactured home and it sure could use some winterization, but we don't qualify for any kind of assistance, so I guess that will just wait, but with today's cold weather, it sure would be nice.

It is trying to snow again today, although our snow in no way measures up to what those of you north and east of us are getting, the wind sure makes it cold...a cold, cold north wind.  Today would have been lawn mowing/yard work day, but because of the weather, it is going to be a sewing day instead.  I could clean house, but if I did that my DH wouldn't have anything to complain about, LOL.

Good Afternoon All! I know I'm a little new to the site, and still can't believe that we are 20 days into GD's hospitalization, but for the first time today, we have had a bit of bright news :)! After Cami had her surgery to put in her central line, she developed one of the hospitals "bugs" that didn't stop with her, it went to her daddy who brought it home to their 2 yr old son that I have been caring for, to his mommy, to his aunt, and also to his uncle who lives here at home....needless to say-bleach has been my very best friend since Easter :)..they had to put baby girl on IV feedings and let her entire system rest for over a week, and all of her levels went even more haywire than they had before...But today, Levels were not only better, but the best we have seen in a very long time :). Doc's are considering the next step..waiting to make sure she completely stabilizes, and maybe they will be talking about the "H" word  (Home!!!)...She is 75 miles from home in Motts Children's Hospital at the U Of Michigan and I think it would be wonderful to have them back home in Ohio...(Even if we are in Monsoon season, rainy, cold and windy for the past two weeks)! i have tried to follow the posts, love the pics of flowers..ours are just starting to pop, but we are very close to Lake Erie, so we are still pretty chilly here...and the picture of the Sandles and Toes...makes spring and summer feel like it really is just around the corner :) !  I finished a quilt top Sunday evening after grandson went to sleep but have been having a debate about what color to use for backing fabric..It is done in really deep batiks, oldest daughter thinks the green from center would be awesome..it is for my SIL'S  foster son up in Derry NH :) would appreciate opinions....

Sadly, I am now a member of the “victims of credit card fraud” group.  My card was skimmed somehow, somewhere and is still in my possession.

I have been away from home (in Oregon & Seattle) since April 1 and was driving home last Saturday via Snoqualmie Pass.  I stopped in North Bend at a fast food restaurant to eat lunch before driving over the pass as it was snowing heavily and didn’t know how long or how bad things would be.  It turned out to be not too bad – only yukky, wet snow and standing water (the worse part).

Early Sunday morning I had an automated phone call alert from my financial institution (CU) that an unusual withdrawal transaction had occurred on my account.  As it was from a Casino I had never been to, I immediately cancelled the card!  Get this, the transaction was for over $3,000!!!  YIKES!

So, I had a very anxious Sunday chewing my nails until I could call my CU on Monday morning!  They emailed me the forms to fill out and advised that I file a police report and call the fast food restaurant – as that was the last place the card had been used by me (and as it is near the casino seemed like a possibility that the cashier did the skimming).  My replacement debit card is on its way.

I spent the rest of Monday on the phone with the King County Sheriff (Seattle area) and the Manager(s) of the fast food restaurant.  The Sheriff’s Office gave me a case number and suggested I call the casino myself as they couldn’t guarantee they would do anything about this (too much fraud going on and operator wasn’t sure the amount would warrant the effort.  Sheesh!)   When asked, I told them I would definitely be willing to press charges!  We need to stand up against this kind of theft!!!  The casino was less than helpful: Cash Machines are owned and operated by a private company, casino does not provide surveillance cameras for those machines and will only give information to the Sheriff’s Department – if they bother to investigate…la la la la la…  They did offer to give us some free meal cards if we wanted to visit…HA HA!!!  Like that will ever happen…especially now!

The manager of the fast food restaurant was very understanding of my situation, apologetic if it was one of their employees.  She had already tracked down my order on their records and identified the person who was my cashier.  She said she is scheduling him on the counter today and will be closely observing him and watching his area for anything suspicious.  She also promised to call me with how it goes.  I really could not have asked for any more in the way of cooperation from her.  Remember, I really do not know for sure that this person did the skimming.  It just seems like the logical place.

This morning I called the Fraud Unit at my credit union to confirm they received my faxed report.  They had and the funds were reimbursed to my account this morning…big sigh of relief!  In talking with this Fraud Unit employee (who deals with these cases every day) she cautioned me to not be so sure that the fast food employee is the likely person to have done the skimming.  She agreed that this is a big coincidence that it happened nearby on the same day, but stranger things have happened.  She said the skimming could have happened months ago – anywhere – and that my card info just came up now on their list to be made into a card and used. (VERY SCARY THOUGHT!)  Or, that they have had the fake card for awhile and waiting until tax refund season to try cards for large balances.  (ANOTHER SCARY THOUGHT!)

So, I am passing along some of what I have learned in the last two days.  I know I am going to be a lot more careful about using my debit card in the future.  I am just very thankful that my financial institution is so on top of this kind of thing and had this alert system is in place so that my card could be cancelled immediately before any further charges were made (but honestly, there wasn’t much left…lol).  Remember, we all are paying for the $$$ these thieves steal via increased banking fees, etc.  I’ve been reimbursed, but someone in the financial chain is going to “eat” this loss and that will be passed on to all of us consumers.

I hope none of you have to share my experience but chances are you will.  So, use caution everywhere and every time you use your cards and be sure your financial institution has good safeguards, reimbursement policies, and alert systems in place.

Beth, How wonderful that your Cami is doing so much better.  Boy, that is something to have that GI bug travel thru nearly the whole family.  Hope it is gone now.   We have been having rain too, but not as much as you have been having, some days it just doesn't get this far north, which is okay, we are getting enough of it.   Hope that your granddaughter can come home as she awaits her kidney.   Ginny

Gosh CC, I wish you would send those weatherization guys to my place. Although I don't need attic insulation, I do need windows and wall and basement insulation.   Ginny

Karla, Gotta keep those DH's happy.  I too am sewing instead of the housework today.

Beth, The green or the blue from the front would both be nice for a backing for a male.

Donna B, Credit card fraud is soooo scary.  We got really lucky in our situation as well.  The person who got our numbers must have had a bunch of friends and he had all of them go to one gas station and treated them each to a tank of gas. 46 gas charges at 4am.  Credit Union fraud called us apparently while they were still there, because the sheriff arrested the person with a card with our number on it at the gas station.  The station owner called the sheriff due to the shear number of vehicles gassing at that time.  We did end up eating the first $50 originally, but got it back after we testified that it was our number.  We both had our cards in our wallets at the time.  I don't pay anywhere enough attention to my account to catch things daily, but Fraud prevention services are awesome these days.  Glad to hear yours came out well too.

Donna, my credit card company informed me that they would be sending me a new card with new number because one of the companies I did business with was compromised.  I only order fabric online so it must've been one of them.  I think it's safer when paying with paypal so I'll be doing that from now on.  Sorry for your troubles.
