Brigit-Carol, you did a beautiful job on this quilt. I don't really like square quilts either, and usually try to add borders or extra blocks whenever possible. The people who will receive this quilt will be very grateful.

Yes, the small rulers where the only things I used before. I didn't like rulers at all until I found these. They anchor up against either roller and it makes all the difference in the world now. I found them at the Mid Atlantic quilt festival. The owner of Quilter's Rule let me take them to the Tin Lizzie booth, he was sooo nice! I don't know what size machine you have, I have a 26" Tin Lizzie and I bought the 18", 24", the corner attachment and the curve that lets you make Baptist fans.
I'm having them make a 30" ruler for me, the 24" held at a 45 degree angle is too short. They'll make any kind of ruler you can think up!
Now that I have rulers that will stay still easily I'll use them often. I've had them 3 weeks and I like them a lot. I haven't tried the Baptist fan just yet, although Thea's quilt top is going to get one of the borders done using a Baptist fan. I'll post photos!
I worked on quilts Monday and Tuesday. Yesterday I had to complete a crochet scarf for a friend. Today is tax day...but I really hope to make it to my sewing room before I go to bed! I miss it so much. A week at home, and then back to work. Sometimes it's like all these exercises moments take away from sewing! Lol. But I know that balance in your life is so important! If I could just skip the food prep and clean-up once in a while, I'd be a happy camper. Happy quilting day!
thank you all on your compliments. About the pillowcasings: I took the Tangled Stars block from EQ^, and changed it a bit to fit my pillows. Then I made a measuring mistake and had to add the borders. If you don't have EQ6 (or another version), I can send you the pattern if you sent me a pm with your email address.
About the mysterytop: it was a lot of work, some parts foundation pieced. But not really difficult, part by part. Everything put together does look complicated. It is a large quilt, especially for me. I usually make smaller quilts. This one is about 100 inches by 100 inches, I guess. It's twoandahalf by twoandahalf metres. the one I'm working on this year is a lot smaller, just oneandahalf by oneandahalf metres, so 60 inches. I chose the colours I liked best, purples, greens and turquoise/teals, a total of 14 fq. And just over three yards of white for the background. I hope I answered all of your questions. If not then please ask again, or send me a pm.
Brigit Carol, if you don't mention the miscalculation, we'll just see a clever breaking of the pattern, which makes it exciting.
Finished another appliqué block:
