I am trying Aurifil thread for the first time and bought 28wt because it said it was for hand quilting and it also said you could use 50 wt. what have you used/ recommend.
Jesse,Ilove Aurifil Thread , I use the 50 wt in my Janome ,that is what works best im my machine. I've never tried the 28 wt ,but I don't do much hand work . Barbara

I've been using the 50wt. And love it. I have been using their wool thread for wool appliqué and it is very nice.

I love the Aurifil thread 50 wt.. Makes a lot less lint under my sewing machine. Haven't used the 28 wt. yet.

If you want to really see the stitches in your hand quilting the 28 wt. is perfect. If you want them to blend in more the higher weights are better. Make sure you have a needle appropriate for the weight of your thread so it doesn't split and shred on you in the process.

I use the same needle for piecing and quilting. Inspira Titanium Quilting 90.

Jesse,I use needles form Rushbrooke Strand .I use the Jean Lyle fine english needles ,these come in a very nice little wooden case for storage, they run arond 3.50 for a catainer of appro,12 needles. I love them myself .These I use for hand work , For my machine .I use Janome needles .mostly the 90/14 I have to get these from my dealer . I have some that Judy mentioned as well .but I prefer the Janome.

I love the Bohin brand needles for hand quilting. They seem to be alot sharper than some of the others. I don't recommend the ones you find at JoAnns and I don't like John James needles. They just aren't as sharp and they tend to "drag" in the fabric.
Sewing machine needles .... I usually use Schmetz 90/14.
