How do I get rid of the large bulk of fabric that occurs when you're putting four blocks together?
I have the seams pressed in opposite directions but there's two or three pieces in each block converging on what becomes the center point when I put the four blocks together.
How do I get rid of the bulk?
Windmill the center seams. Take out a couple of stitches in the seam allowance, open the center and press you finger while twisting it. Then iron your seams all facing the same direction. Eleanor Burns demonstrates this well starting at about the 3:35 minute of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tIxUuJRiW8&feature=related
Go to this website. There is a video that will show you how to do this and it is great. So easy and everything is flat. http://video.about.com/quilting/Nest-Patchwork-Quilt-Seams.htm.

Kristin, there is a way, hold at the seam in the center pop the seam so that each half goes in a differant direction. This is bnot very clear bur I hope it helps
Hi redfish, it is nice to meet you. Thank you for the link, it is always nice to learn an easier way to do something.
