I might be using flannel for a backing for the first time.  Is there anything I need to be aware of when I use flannel?  The quilt will be done with batiks.  Will a longarm quilter have any issues with the flannel backing?  Do I need to use a different batting?

Thanks :)

Every longarmer is different but I don't have any problem with it.  Just make sure the backing is 4" bigger on all sides and squared up.  Batting shouldn't matter.  Your longarmer may have batting that works best with their machine.  I would discuss with them but you should be fine.  I would probably prewash the flannel because it would probably have more shrinkage then the batik.  Good luck.

I love flannel backings and use them frequently.  I do suggest that you wash your flannel because it does shrink more than the quilting cottons.
