I haven't done much hand work before. Now I'm working on a Vintage Tin quilt which has a huge amount of hand embroidery. My thumb pad was sore from the pressure of length of the needle. I asked at the quilt shop and she recommended Thimble-it.  I love it. Just little peel and stick pads that I put on my thumb. It protects my thumb from the edge of the needle.

I really like those too.  Small enough not to get in the way, and they save my fingers.
