changing block size.

How do you go about changing a blocks size, say from 14" to 8" when the block has angles and curves? I did a block that resembled a sunflower for one quilt and now need to reduce it for another quilt. This will have to be without the benefit of a quilting program. Just my mathematical and artistic ability, and I do not have much of the mathematical part.

Melody, do you have a picture of the one you finished? Sorry can't help with the math it makes my head hurt!

If you have accurate block size pic reduce in scanner .  Can't help other than that.

melody, if you can't reduce it in your printer, you can take it to staples and have them do it.  how is the block constructed?   is it paper pieced, appliqued, pieced.  can we see a picture of it?

Usually to reduce a block you would take what you want (8) and divide by what you have (14) then multiply by 100. This will give you a percentage. You can use this number in a copier to reduce.

The same formula applies for enlarging.

8/14 x 100 = 57.14%

The above picture is a block I made for the CW/KT Boarderland Butternut and Blue by B. Brackman. She has a quilt going on now that is commemorate Women's Suffrage. There are 49 blocks, one a week until completed. So far a couple are repeats of other blocks just 8" as opposed to14". I do have the computer equipment, it is either down with a virus or out of ink. ( why or why do I have it when it is ill when I need it! LOL) So I was hoping to it the old fashion way. Since Brackman likes challenging blocks and goes down to 1/8" or 1/16 I may have to wait for modern technoligy to continue.

Mel, I love that block and may have to try it. You say on picture link that you will be sewing the center circle by hand. Did I understand that right?
