Well, I actually planned to go to bed and then print the next step tomorrow morning, but I've been tossing and turning so thought I'd get up and see if it's there...

Not sure, Francine. I remember Nana saying this is a real quick quilt. I'm a bit surprised by the lack of design. Maybe the borders that are still to come will somehow add some pizzazz to this.
well heck, I was hoping for a bit more than a tossed patch top. I'm with ya MNnancy, design is definately missing, I think I'll just go jump ship on this one, don't care for the look at all. I recall Jenny doing one like this with layer cakes just cutting them up and sewing them back together, I'm going to you tube to look see at that one again. Good thing I have 60 pieces to work with. I think you are correct Caryl Anne it is the same pattern I believe I just looked up the tutorial you are thinking of. Not quite what I expected either but I have come this far and cut up fabric so I will finish it. I am also not as happy with this MQ. I have seen pictures of the other MQ's that have been done on here and they were awesome! Oh well will finish it up maybe will be a charity quilt.
I am not understanding the instructions. Part 1 says take your 2 piles of strips cut from the block in the last step mix and match and sew the blocks back together. I am not understanding this. I have a pile that are 5 1/2 inches and a pile that are 4 inches. and then the pile that are 2 1/2 inces Do we sew the pile that are 5 1/2 inches together and the ones that are 4 inches together? And what does it mean the small pieces at opposite ends? Sorry to ask this, but I really do not understand. How many pieces in each row?
Hi Pearl, the pictures are not as easy to follow on this one. Sometime today, I will post some. It is a very simple design and with the seams in the blocks not matching, a good one for beginners. Had I known this was what I was going to end up with, I definitely would not have used some of my favorite fabrics. But then, I might never have gotten around to using those, and I did choose all the fabrics from my stash except 1/3 yard. But this design is growing on me.
As I ended up with 50 blocks, I think I will make two lap quilts. 5 blocks in a row, 5 rows.
As I was reading this, it came toi me the name, Nana's Surprise. Maybe that is what the next couple of steps are. Maybe cutting this on the diagonal or something and rearranging it back together...?

As my DH and I are arranging the blocks to sew together we were thinking the same thing. And I think that Nana also said in one of her posts to answer a question about fabric selection, that the strips of background fabric play a part in the quilt so picking a white or a black was suggested. That Nana is always one for surprises.
pearl, take your two sets, the 4" set stack them up and turn them over RFD stack your 5.5 set RFU pick up one 4" sew it to the 5.5" with smaller pieces at opposing ends. no seams will meet.this is stitched and pressed. ignore the second piece of blue corner you see that is just another piece being pressed

I wouldn't give up yet, you never know what is in the next two steps. you could wait before you do any more and see what you think .
It is sometimes really hard for those of us that don't do scrappy to grasp the concept. Nana is teaching me this concept however. It never hurts to sew outside the BOX once in a while.
