I am planning on making Arkansas Cross Roads on one side and a solid back with Applique hearts . for family to sign for the quilt I am making for my nephews quilt. I am also going to quilt it with a Serpentine Stitch (stich in the ditch). Can anyone give me any suggestions. I was thinking on  appliqueing the Hearts first just not sure when to quilt it . Should I quilt it before putting the back on. Someone help please.

No, most quilting is done after everything is put together. Ie You sandwiched the front to the batting and batting to the back. I don't think I ever did the ark cross roads block or quilt design but it sounds like it will be nice. I'm sure they will love it.
