I'm glad I helped you relax about it a bit. First time dealing with little quirks is always nerve racking. Ask me how I know this. LOL I'm glad you caught it too. It would of been terrible if you had quilted over your leaders and pins. That would of been worse than running out of backing. I would put it on the frame the same way to be safe. Be careful with trimming the quilt to get it square after quilting it. You can get the borders all out of whack. (too thin in some places.) I try to square the quilt as I'm quilting. You probably already know this though.

Welcome to the group. You are so right about how much there is to think about when quilting and how much there is to learn. I learn something new every time I do a quilt it seems. I'm sure some here will have ideas for you if you post a picture. It may just call for an all over meandering of some type.

Christine, that is indeed a quilt that has been dragged down the hall and over the sandbox. I have one hanging on my spare room wall that looks the same. Not a GFG but worn and loved. It was given to my son over 35 years ago and I kept it. It has a hole worn in the centre from folding (warning!!!!) but the colors are still good.

I try to square the borders up as I'm quilting but there always seems to be 1 or 2 that don't want to cooperate. LOL! Especially when I have cornerstones. Little devils like to get all wonky on me.
I will post a picture of it soon. Luckily for me it is just a wallhanging and not a queen size quilt. Now all I have to do is add a hanging sleeve (gulp) and bind it and mail it off to my customer.

Don't you just hate that! Little stinkers. :-) Sometimes no matter how hard you try the quilt just doesn't cooperate.
Here is a collaborative effort I am doing with another quilter. She made all the blocks out of clothes, curtains, dish towels...quite a mess of things. I took the finished blocks and did the sashing and borders. I need to quilt it but it is going to have to be custom. A lot of the blocks have trim or beads. I am waiting for my backing to come in from SewBatik.
