MMM and Agnes are correct. If you look at this like HST's you can avoid the Y seams. Let us know how it's going.
Ms MoomMist:oin 1 to 2, and 3 to 2 make 2,join at seam 3-3 & 2 -2 making block 1, then make 4 and join as in a 4-block no Y seams.
Moonmist, this is perfect. I printed out the block pattern from EQ7 and your method should work great.
Thank you. I'm anxious to give this a try today. I'll have to use my backup machine as I'm taking my Viking into the shop. All of a sudden it won't stitch properly. The default 2.5 stitch comes out really teeny. I have to move it up to 4 to get a normal stitch but the tension is way off. Plus it's kind of making a clunking noise. I'm hoping it's a simple adjustment they can do there, otherwise they send it out and I'll be without her for a couple weeks.
Poop, but at least she is still under warranty.

I just took my Viking in yesterday- a 2009 Sapphire 830 as it was getting shorter stitch lengths and finally hit the sole plate!!! Left a nasty mark too.....technician said they put it on a computer and it re regulates it. Said I must have sewn something reallly heavy / thick and pulled on needle shaft (Duh- isn't that referred to as machine quilting?).
Anyway 79.99 and 1 week later I'll have my baby back.
I have a small Janome to use at McKenzie River Quilt retreat next weekend !
I just asked a bunch of questions of Patti for the Gleneden Beachcomber's retreat-yay! I will come visit if don't actually get to stay!

Pam, I have the same machine, a Sapphire 830, bought it August 2010. That is exactly what mine is doing. I've heard they can loose their calibration. I use the machine constantly. The one thing I've noticed is the feeddogs won't stay down. I flip the stitch to put them down when I'm FMQ but after a bit, they pop back up again.
I hope you make it to the Oregon retreat. You mentioned seeing if you could rent a separate cabin. I did call them sometime back to see if they had another cabin for one couple and they told me they were completely full. But it can't hurt to check. They also allow pets which appeals to me. If this retreat is done again next year George and I may get a cabin instead of bringing our RV.
Agnes:To make it simple, look at this pattern as four identical quadrants.
Agnes, you guys are all so smart! I stared at this pattern trying to see a sequence but couldn't until you and MMM pointed it out. Now it looks so simple. I'm anxious to try it out later today. Will post results.

All the sewing I've got done today is to make the label for the 2nd baby quilt and get it sewn on, boxed up, and ready to mail to North Carolina. I doubt if I'll make it to the post office though as now I am babysitting the almost 6 month old grandson. He is such a cutie and so happy, always smiling. Here is a picture we took of him at Christmas.

OK, made two Lemoyne Star blocks with Civil War fabrics. Piecing them together in blocks worked well. They aren't perfect but I'm happy with them.

Thanks Spud. Even though the directions were for Y seams, it did help me with cutting the diamond shapes without using a template. I have a Companion ruler that I used for the setting pieces. Now to put everything together in one set of directions so I don't forget what I'm doing. Which I'll do very quickly if I don't have it written down.
Joe:Here's the bright (not calm) baby quilt delivered to Baby Momma. But the back is mild penguins. Baby can be on that side for calmness.
