Well....I tried to work on a quilt today. It just wasn't 'productive' work.  I tried sewing 6 strips of fabric together, 2 1/2 X 16 inches each.  I should have had a block 12 1/2 X 16 when done. I didn't.  Since I couldn't believe I'd messed up that bad I did a second one.  Still off!  So I started measuring and checking, etc., and my 1/4 inch foot is off by about 1 1/2 threads.

Have all my blocks made to date been that far off?  Well, it hasn't really mattered too much until these blocks because these blocks will be sent away to be added to somebody elses 12 1/2 inch blocks. They need to be correct.  Drat!

My hands are giving me fits the last few days, so I asked DH to break the guide off my 1/4 inch foot. "why? if its a 1/4 inch foot it should already be 1/4 inch. Right?" And that lead to a rather long discussion that ended in me asking him if he could break the foot or not. If not, then give it back to me and I'd take a hammer to it.  He broke it for me.

So all my sewing today has been frogged and I'm ready to start over. I'm going to pretend I'm coming down with a cold so I can go have one of Brigit-Carol's hot toddies. Sounds reaalllyyy good right now.  Tomorrow will be a better day for sewing.

Today I sewed all but six hexies to my GFG.  I have to baste the remaining 6 to templates first then I'll finish up.  I'd do it tonight but it's late and the alarm goes off whether I'm ready or not!  Once the 6 are on I'm done with hexies and ready to attach borders!  Woo Hoo!

Finally got a picture done of my Civil War Challenge Quilt. After readying much hogwash about Civil War quilts, I challenged myself to make my idea of a War of Northern Aggression quilt. Challenge rules: Can't copy any pic or use a pattern. Can't go to store and buy anything for it. Must use a block that could have existed then. Try to stay realistic in color and pattern, within limits of rule two. This is result. Judges (Wife, Me) examined, declared consistent with requirements, gave it the WGKTO award. (We're Gonna Keep This One). Feel free to challenge yourself.

We did not get quite that drastic Max, we did not use a hammer...:) But, I did find a reasonably priced 1/4" foot for my Janome (they do not make one, that I could find, without the guard) and I had my hubby take the guard off. I decided that I was pushing my fabric up too tight to the guard and this caused my measurement to be off. That appears to have been my problem as I'm not having any trouble now and I was not having a problem with a scant 1/4" on my brother without the guard.
