Just learning how to quilt, self taught. I'm working on a quilt for my grandson.  I just wish I could find a quilting class at night or week-ends.

Hi Catfriddo, and welcome to the group.  I took a 2 session beginning class when I first started and that really helped.  Check with your local quilt and fabric stores.  They often have classes in the evening or weekends.  As when they start a new quilter on their way, they have gained a customer.

On the other hand there are lots of good demonstration videos, some which you can see as a member.  Also good classes on line.  I have been doing craftsy block of the month, and it has been a good instructional free class.

I am sure some others can point you in the direction to some specific videos to see.  youtube is a great place to go as well.

Hi Catfriddo,  I am in the same boat.  I would recommend that you do the Craftsy block of the month at Craftsy.com.  It is FREE and I have learned so many new techniques.  You can start it at any time and it you will have access to it forever so you can refer back to the techniques.  Here are some pics of the techniques I have learned so far.   Flying Geese

And there are more but I didnt want to lock up this site with too many pics lol.

So check it out,  Amy is a great teacher.  The BOM actually started in Jan, but I didnt start until June it took me about 6 weeks to catch up and I work full time also.  November will be the sashing and putting the blocks together and dec will be the quilting.

I just cant say enough good things about this class.  Remember it is at craftsy.com then look for BOM .

Joe, can't see the old and the ugly in this piece, looks just fine to me.  Is this your own design?

I'm self taught as well, Catfriddo.  That is with the help of Eleanor burns and her simple to follow books.  Check them out, I started with her Log Cabin Quilt in a Day, couldn't be more simple with her methods.  I also find Jenny Doan, on Youtube or on her Missouri Star Quilt Company site, to be a no nonesense and easy to follow instructor.  Also, this site is a wealth of knowledge, good luck!  And welcome!

Donna, Very pretty blocks - I still have to finish my PP pieced ones - Maybe I will do that this afternoon.  I was looking at them last night and figuring out what color I needed to use for the backgrounds to even out my blocks and the over all quilt as we are done now - WOW but it was a fun year waiting for the blocks each month... getting them done and catching up when I fell behind.

You did an awesome job!  Have you thought about how you are going to put them together?  Are you going to follow what she did with just a simple sashing?  I am unsure yet.

I worked on Jay's quilt yesterday - am waiting impatiently for the backing to arrive so I can quilt Rita's and today I am thinking I will finish up the wall hanging that I made for my SS gift - I just have to put the binding on and the hanging sleeve - they are all prepared and just waiting for me to do them - I am thinking I will get that done - get that box filled and ready to mail so that I am ready for the 5 December mail date.  I'll leave it open just for those last minute things I find.  Found a couple things in a new catalog yesterday that are screaming at me to order...teehee...

Again - very nice job Donna!
