Debbie-do: I ended up cutting strips to width then cutting squares. I tried basting w/o cutting off the corners but it bugged me so I cut corners off as I went. I've got all 66 centers basted and I've started putting together the flowers in my southwestern flower garden. I'm going to wait to pick out background fabric. It takes at least 45 minutes to sew one flower together and I'm wishing I had bifocals!

Thank you for your compliments, they keep me going! I've gotten my time down to about 30 minutes each and I've been cranking away at them. I'll bet I've got 30 done already!

Thank you, thank you , thank you! Marge, I'm open to suggestions. I've thought about muslin but then I've seen many potential western fabrics on the shelves that might fit the bill. It needs to be subtle like a loopy barbed wire or rope on a light background... or maybe a very pale bluebonnet fabric! I may end up making 2 small quilts so I can try 2 different backgrounds!
After adding what I worked on today, I'm up to 33!! Just a little over half way.
Debbie, do you buy the papers and if so where do you get them?
Sorry Marie, I make my own papers... too cheap frugal to pay money for something I can make! I've been saving the false covers and inserts from magazines made of light card stock. I've made a page for the copier with a grid of hexis the size I need them then I copy to the cards. There's a little trial and error getting started but it sure beats tracing them all out ,especially when I need 500 of the little buggers! Use comfortable scissors when cutting them out and take your time.
Debbie, Beautiful Flowers! Your creation will be the reward for all your hard, tedious work. Some people have no idea how much work goes into one of these beauties. Please show us the work in progress or the finished quilt top . Im excited to see it. Thanks for sharing with us. Susan

Penny, if I'm wearing the right glasses and have good lighting and don't get interrupted, I can stitch together one whole flower in about 30 minutes. I just counted and there are about 300 stitches per flower!
Do you do what i do and baste a load first and then stitch them together, and i quite like the fact that i have two EPP projects going at the same time since they are using very different fabrics it saves me getting bored.
PS forgot to say you are doing a great job, think i will send you mine so you can finish mine for me.
I love to see your progress Debbie Do. Maybe this would be a good way of using up some shirt fabric that I need to turn unto a quilt. I am still at the planning stage as I need to do five, but this looks like one I could do... No problem and I could bring them at school to work on during my lunch break . I like how yours is looking.i just can't wait to see your finished quilt!
