Just wanted to say hello to everyone as I'm new. My name is Vicki and I live in the Southern Highlands of NSW, Australia. I started University this year (BA in History), so along with all the reading and studying, working, housework and gardening, I'm trying to find time for my quilting! I also love knititng and needlework. I live with my mother (she needs looking after, though she won't admit it), 2 silver cats and a bird.

I love looking at all the quilt projects others are working on, it sure gets the creative juices flowing. Unfortunately I don't think I'll have enough time to complete all the ideas I have in mind. Maybe 2 or 3 lifetimes would come close :-} I am currently working on my version of a Jane Austen quilt, the one Jane, her sister, Cassandra, and their mother started 200 years ago. The top is finished and I'm hand quilting the layers together. It is taking a while... It is my 9th quilt, self taught, so learning all i can and hope to never stop.

I'm looking forward to seeing all the brilliant quilts and ideas everyone comes up with!

Take care everyone! Vicki

Welcome Vicki in the land down under!  I think a few of us might like to visit you right now since we are sweltering under a heat wave.  I wonder if your Jane Austen quilt is the same as the one we call Dear Jane.

Glad to have you, Vicki.  Isn't NSW where Prince William lives?.

No Nancy, they're different. The Jane Austen quilt was made by Jane Austen the author. Linda Franz is a big Austen fan and sells a book called "Jane Austen Patchwork".

Thank you all for your warm welcome! Yes, the Jane Austen quilt is different to the Dear Jane quilt. My version is the centre lozenge surrounded by the middle sized lozenges (all fussy cut) with a plain border. I honestly couldn't face all those smaller ones! You can see the pictures on that web page.

Sorry, no, unfortunately Prince William and Kate don't live here in Australia. You are thinking of Wales in the UK.

Take Care all, Vicki

Hi Vicki.  Glad you can join us.

I have several Australian cousins.  My aunt stowed away on her boyfriend's ship during WWII and the captain learned she was on board about half way.  He performed the wedding ceremony.  it was quite a story.  It would make a fun movie.

One of my favorite maps is of the world turned around with Australia at the top.  I think it said down under no longer.
