thrift stores are awesome ,I got my Rowenta iron ,and older model at one for 5 dollars ,it gets nice and hot and no auto shut off ..

I get so disgusted that this little town I live in has nothing but second hand stores. With finds like that, I guess I should give them a second chance.

I wish I could find a great deal like that! My travel Rowenta broke the other day... the handle won't stay up so I suppose I'll have to go buy another one.
I bought a Panasonic iron at Sam's Club. Has a carrying case and is cordless. It sits on a base but the iron itself is light. Love it.
Young folks don't iron these days (well neither do I except for pressing seams), but as my daughters got married they seemed to receive a couple of irons each as wedding presents. I've inherited all of them and actually have 3 or 4 in my sewing room closet. When one quits, I just break out a new box. I haven't been too picky so far because they have been free to me (well not really free as it costs me another new quilt every now or then which I would have made them anyway).

I used to have a Black & Decker that had a faceplate shaped like that and love it. Right now I have a Rowenta but have used Panasonic irons before and was well pleased with them. Looks like a really nice iron. I especially like the carry case if you do lots of classes and sew ins.
