Hello. I'm from Arroyo Grande, CA, have been quilting for many years and started taking a quilting class with my neighbor about a year and a half ago, have learned so much more. My husband got me a longarm-Crown Jewel-for Christmas last year and I'm really having a problem with the tread shredding. The dealer we bought it from has been out several times, everytime they say it is is different problem, rust on the bobbin case, etc, the last time, they told me I was moving to fast for the machine to catch up and that's why the shredding....HOWEVER even when I show down it shreds. My frustration level is off the chart and I don't know what I am doing wrong. Has anyone else out there experienced this particular problem. It works well on a practice piece, but once I load a quilt it shreds. Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
Terry
I don't have a Crown Jewel, I have a Fusion but there are still several things you could try.
Change out the thread completly, some machines don't like certain threads, you'll have to figure out which you can use and what you can't, change the needle (positioning is crucial it has to be straight, sharp and no burrs) Check the thread path for burrs, make sure its threaded properly and seated in the discs. .
If you are going to fast you should be "eyelashing" not thread breaking. At least that is my experience. I hope this helps.
thanks, Vivian. I'll try your suggestions!
Welcome Terry.

Welcome Terry. I would suggest that you post your question in the thread "Longarmers Share". I think the folks there will be happy to help you with any problems.

Oh, and i forgot to mention, make sure you are using a needle that is the correct size for the thread you are using. The Eye has to be big enough for the thread to pass cleanly. And the longarmer share thread is a font of information with a lot of experienced longarmers there.
