Most of the stuff I purchased had over 5 yards on the bolt and the average price was around $8.  Is this a normal thing for someone to do, just buy fabric and figure out what to do with it later?

Sure it is. It's also normal to buy fabric just to look at and pet. I have fabric I don't even remember buying.

Sounds normal to me.  My group of quilters does this all the time.  We even travel out of state for day trips to just buy fabric on sale.  We all have stashes, and we share when needed.

A nonquilter would think this is abnormal..............but as any quilter-fabriholic knows, this is perfectly normal behaviour.  You don't have to have a project in mind in order to purchase fabric.  AND -- since you had total bargains in front of you, it would be NOT normal to ignore such deals.  Now you can find the perfect project for your purchase, and know you've scored.  Works for me!!

And if you buy enough fabric on sale you have justification to buy fabric full-price when you find something you just can't live without.  It all balances out.

I like your logic Jeanine!  That's why I bought all the flannel when JoAnn's had it for $1.99 a yard.

i have partial projects that i don't remember making.  who knows how old they are.

lashawn, this is perfectly normal behavior for a quilter.  some of my fabric is so pretty, it will just sit on the shelf looking beautiful, because i can't cut it.

Perfectly normal if you call yourself a quilter.   Enjoy!

Lashawn--

Perfectly normal for a true blue quilter!  Congratulations on your purchases.

Thanks everyone, for confirming I am normal in the world of quilting.  On my way home yesterday, I stopped by the Walmart and purchased some more.

I believe that it is totally normal.  I have done this myself a few times as well.

I've been doing it this since I started making my own income.  I am also a kid in candy store.  I'd rather buy fabric than candy for sure. I have 3 huge bookshelves full of fabric. You sound very very normal to me.  At least in my little world.
