Hi! I'm new here, and new to quilting. I am a single mom with 1 teen daughter, 3 cats and a dog. I've been around needlework since I was little, with a mother who did (and made) everything, except quilts. So I learned to knit, sew, embroider, etc., but no quilting. I remember watching my grandmother make scrap quilts, sitting in her chair all day magically making "blankets" out of old scraps. I never got a chance to learn from her though, and have always wished I had.
Now, after meeting a lot of other quilters, I decided to just jump in and do it. So, I've got LOTS of fabric, and a huge desire to learn. I want to start with something smaller, like a baby quilt. Can you folks suggest a good pattern to start with?
I look forward to being part of this!
PS My name stretches out to Walk and Knit, since I'm frequently doing just that! lol
You will like it here. I don't have much time for online lately, but I enjoy it when I can.
Hi wlknknit and welcome to QCA. I look forward to getting to know you.
Life is like a quilt...bits & pieces, joy & sorrow, stitched with love
Welcome Wlknknit. This is the place to be to learn about quilting and get lots of encouragement.
Welcome to Kittymom5 - glad to see you here - there are a lot of us who love a lot of the different crafts - i started out doing all of the ones you listed but when I turned to quilting those all disappeared - I have a few afghans around that I made over 20 years ago...lol...
Welcome to QCA!!!
Welcome wlknknit :) Glad you joined us.
wlknknit, welcome to QCA.
Welcome wlknknit! Check out the Free Pattern section for some cool patterns. I started my granddaughter out with a split nine patch pattern that is very easy to do. I wrote a pattern for it with pictures and really good step by step directions. If you send me a personal message with your email, I will send it to you. Oh wait, you're new here. I'll pop over and send you a message so you can just reply to it.
Welcome Wlknknit. Hope you enjoy your time with us. There are several easy patterns that you could start with. 9patch, rail fence, split 9 patch. Just pick one and get started. Two things are really important in quilting.... accurate cutting and an accurate scant 1/4 in seam. When you get those things down the rest will come along fairly quickly. If you have any questions please ask. There is always someone here that can help.
Welcome Wlknknt! glad to see you joined the QCA family!
