Deerwood, MN, retreat update - final night - checkout 1 pm tomorrow...
I'm learning some fun quick quilt ideas. Carol has made 5-yard quilts her mission in life. She works out various patterns and shares them with all of us. (see next 2 pics for example) Marge, I now understand the appeal of the 5-yard bundles your quilt shop sells!
Janet showed how to take a simple four-patch and dress it up by slashing, twisting, and stitching. (see next 2 pics)
Myrna showed off her featherweight applique quilt, and I asked for a demo of how to do raw edge fusible applique, so Judy showed us the technique she used in making her McKenna Ryan appliques. She likes Steam-a-Seam2. Now I've added a third applique technique to my repertoire.
Hey, Gini, your applique tracing board came in handy when Carol split her fingernail!
My friend Terri continues to work on her MQ6 and I continue to work on the apple core quilt... slow as usual!

Quilters are people who strip so they won't go topless.

LaJuan Sukochi Lee: Pleae don't think I am being cruel. I would never do that. If I hurt anyone's feelings, I am truly sorry. That was not my intention.
Sukochi, I know you have a good heart and you would never intentionally hurt anyone. I admire the way you reach out to others.

i have to brag on my grandson today. we were practising our violins, and he wanders around the room while he plays. two songs into practice, he goes, "gramma, i need to stop right now, it's in my head"
me, "no, we're practicing"
wil, "but gramma, it's in my head"
me, "NO, get over here and pay attention"
wil, "but gramma"
me, " i'm counting, and if i make it to one, you're in trouble"
so we finished practicing, with him like a jumping bean. i said, " ok, what was so doggone important"
wil, " gramma i have the origami in my head and didn't want to lose it."
while he was playing his violin, he was looking at a picture of a swallow i had printed out for some paper piecing. he had imagined in his head how to construct it in origami and didn't want to forget it before he made it. his origami swallow turned out pretty good, it looked like a swallow. i put a heavy paper clip on it and it even flew. i think we have a budding engineer.
Debbie-do what a handsome honorary grandson. I am sure he will get lots of hugs and kisses from grandma. Enjoy having this baby in your life.

EAT!! SLEEP !! QUILT!!
I worked several hours on a quilt I am making in a quilting class at our Senior Center. This is the hardest one yet. Going tog. well but requires pressing after each added piece so slow going. Glad I have learned to chain stitch. Love the fabric I have and hope to have time real soon to start on the Mystery Quilt. I ordered and rec'd the Bittersweet fabric from MSQ and got it all cut last weekend. Eager to begin!

I sent the better part of yesterday reorganizing my sewing space, it was getting totally out of hand .LOL I moved my machine up by the window ,which will give me better light . I have totally runout of places to put my fabric and hve resorted to totes which is all I can afford at this time. Doing this has made it seem brighter and more work friendly. Now know this is my front room . I have totally taken it over .LOL.I still have alittle more work to do on it ,but at least now I know where things are .
