barbara, it is a style of quilting, a pattern. it's a filler stitch that goes quite quickly, looks complicated, and is easy. it was "invented" by karen mctavish. do you all know the song about the mctavish brothers? it's one of my favorites to sing to the kids.

how cool is it to have a quilting pattern named after you.

Poor Gini!
You can do it! You can make it without your buddy, I promise. Do you have one of those kitchen timers that tick really loudly? If you do, set it for 60 minutes, put it in your purse, and go shopping. That annoying tick tick tick will act as a surrogate for a DH standing around thinking "hurry up!"
If he left the checkbook he must have meant for you to use it. He wouldn't have left it otherwise! And he knows your weaknesses, so it was his way of saying "Go shopping, honey!"

Georgia,
Thank you for the idea about practicing quilting on sheets! I have several twin size that I've used for drop cloths and furniture protectors when remodeling. They were Wally World specials at $2.95, so even if I mess up I haven't lost much dollar-wise. And they will be big enough to really practice on. Orphan blocks only go so far.
Kool idea!

oh, no, i'm pretty sure he forgot it. : ) i have my black magic card to fall back on. it's the most amazing thing. you hand over your little black magic card and the smiling ladies hand you back a bag full of goodies and here is the good part, they give you your little black magic card back. i am so glad i don't live in the time when you had to grow a sack of potatoes or raise a pig, that you had to haul to the quilt shop and then barter for how much fabric they were worth. nope that little piece of black magic works just fine for me.
Joyce - One of the ladies in my guild said the pens are available at office supply stores. I've not checked but they are on my list of things to get when I go for printer ink.
Beth from Illinois
YES!!! I was able to get five of my blocks for the Smoky Mtn. retreat done. Now to finish laundry and pay bills.
Good to see you have your priorities in order.

No quilting today but I did have a very productive weekend! I got a table topper & runner sandwiched and quilted. The runner is done but, I'm still hand sewing the binding down on the topper. I also made 2 beautiful batik/solid pillowcases that I embroidered on as well as more FSL ornaments for DD. Got an order of 40wt poly thread from Metro and had to try out some new colors! Yum. Glad I got all of that done 'cause DD is coming up tonight to have me review her taxes. Oh, joy. I'm underwhelmed to say the least.
Joyce Brenden: Nana-- Did you get your pens from Amazon? I found several different ones shown online there. Do they all work the same or are some specifically meant for fabric?

They weren't meant for fabric at all. It's just serendipity that they work so well for quilting purposes.
gini:oh darn, i broke my 12 1/2 inch ruler
Hey Gini, how far did you have to bend it for it to break? You have given me my laugh for today. You can be trusted to shop alone can't you-- not like some other gal on here who bought -let's see- how many yards of that wild purple fabric did she get? LOL ....Ginny
Beth, I got my pens at office max. They also had some that were a permanent ink. So look carefully....Ginny
