I am a fairly new quilter. I've sewn clothes and crafty things since I was a teenager, but just last year I finally took a quilting class. What a difference it made! I learn a lot of short cuts and tricks to making sure things are square or straight. I've enjoyed every quilt that I've made since then. My mother used to love quilting and I inherited her tools and supplies when she passed away a few years ago. All of the actual quilting that I've done has been the 'stitch in the ditch' type, but am interested in more of the free motion quilting. I have a Janome 3160 and although I LOVE this machine, it seems a bit tight to move a larger quilt around for free motion. Any suggestions on how to get started ? Maybe another class is the way to go, but my favorite quilt store in Delaware was just put out of business 2 months ago. I'd love to chat with other quilters, especially those in this area (New Castle Delaware).

hi pat, welcome to the group. if you haven't done free motion, i would start on a smaller piece. large quilts can be done on a regular sewing machine but it is a process horsing that quilt around it.

Hi Pat.... welcome to the group :-)
Just curious, how do you like your Janome 3160? I recently bought a Janome 6600 and I love it so I was thinking of getting the 3160 to take to classes because it's much lighter and the feet are interchangeable.
Hi Pat, welcome

Sheri,
I did my first 4 quilts using my old Kenmore that was over 30 years old. Then, when I bought the Janome 3160, I discovered so many wonderful options! I didn't know machines had thread cutters and needle up or down buttons or so many other things. I love all the different feet that came with it, especially the 1/4" foot. I didn't have that on my old machine and it makes it so much easier.
Pat welcome to the group.
