My name is Geri and I live in Valdosta GA, near the Florida state line so here in the south, quilting is not "a thing to do" by hardly anyone. I suppose it is because our weather is so warm most of the time noone wants to think about quilting. My dream during my working years was to quilt when I retired, too bad I waited until then to begin! Lots I am not sure of now and many mistakes as I train myself but your video's have been a great help, thank you!
Anyway, we do not have any good fabric stores here, no Hancocks, JoAnns and even Walmart has discontinued selling fabric and thread so it is very hard to come by unless I order online. I like feeling and seeing the fabric with my own hands and eyes. Also the local stores we do have (2) only carry the smallest spools of thread and not even a good selection of those.
I do have a question, when I purchased my Jenome 6500 machine, it came with several large (giant) spools of thread which have very large centers. I cannot figure out how to use this thread on my machine without it wobbling. The spindle is much too small to hold it steady. How do I use all of this thread? Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Welcome, Geri, We have quite a few Georgia Peaches in our group. I live in Ellijay, Ga. in the mountains. I can't remember but how far are you from Jacksonville, FL? Being a large city, they may have quilt shops. Though there are several quilt shops 60 miles or so south of us and three in the three county area up here, I do a lot of online fabric and notion shopping. You can save a bundle of money by doing that. But, I also support the LQS as I would hate for them to go out of business.
hi geri, welcome to the group. they make a small wooden insert, that goes inside the spool. it should be easy to find online

Gini I use the 1200 yd. Essential thread from Connecting Threads and never gave a thought to the larger hole it has. Do you recommend these for them? Surprised CT doesn't offer them for sale. Thanks for the info and URL

Welcome, Geri
I have a question. If I want to embroidery a flower on my fabric, would I do this before or after I add batting?
Welcome, Geri, You can find quilt shops and Walmart in Lake City,FL I live in Macclenny, 30 miles east of LC. Also if you take a small spool of thread and place it inside of the large cone,( try different sizes) this works great on the cones. Susan
