i totally missed the how to hem lesson.   i put  2 or 3 pins ahead of where i'm stitching and move them as i go along.    i'm pretty sure it's a lot quicker

Yup,you stick the pin in and slip the eraser over the sharp end to keep it from slipping of and carry on.

I buy the foam sheets at our local Dollar Store, cut them into small squares.  I use flat head pins and slip the foam square over the sharp end.  Everything lays nice a flat.
