When I buy new pillows or bedding, I cut off the DO NOT REMOVE UNDER PENALTY OF LAW labels. These are now almost always printed on nonwoven, tear-proof fabric. Save them for emergency quilt labels.
Sometimes extra info is needed for a display or show, or there just isn't time to make a nice label. Turn the saved label to the backside, use a permanent marker to write the info, then baste or pin securely to the quilt back. These can be easily removed, or replaced with a nicer label later, and they are free.
Oh, I like that idea! Good suggestion.
