Ahh... a new day. I woke up to the giggles of little boys, sneaking a  chance to inspect gifts under the tree while Mommy slept in.

Hubby was off to work before sunrise today. He left me a pot of battery-acid coffee...A good deterent for  caffiene intake! Yuck.

DD starts her holiday break today. She's still in bed. When she stumbles forth to face the day,  I'll put her to work cleaning the fridge while I get the floors mopped and toilet scrubbed. SiL is "a bit " of a neat freak so I always make an extra effort to tidy up before her arrival...not that it does much good with a houseful of munchkins fallowing me around leaving a happy trail of crumbs and finger prints where-ever they go.  SiL will still spend most of the weekend suffering from germophobia, but at least I'll know we tried to put her at ease.

I dwant to learn it all .I have already gotten some reall good advice from Thea  on Stablizers , and I would love to just sit and play with it for awhile .. Barbara

Congrats on your new baby...I was wondering Thea wouldn't mind sharing her advise on the stabilizers as that's my weakest area w/ machine embroidery  .

Have fun

CC i was sitting here reading your post, thinking about calvin, he's 4, and how hard it was for him to keep his fingers off the ornaments. i reached up to scratch my ear and found some  frosting inside, from the cookie making we did yesterday.  it was a rather large pink  glob.  it had to have gotten there while i was getting hugs.   and yes, i did have my shower last night.   i guess i need to be more thorough with my showers, when i've had cal for the day.   hmmm, perhaps i'll have a pink cookie or two for breakfast.

I wouldn't give Nick money.  I would find something that interested him before the rebellion phase and hope that somewhere inside he will realize that someone does care and wants the best for him.   It is so hard to deal with a teenager that is going thru this stage.  Thankfully not all of them do.

gini,

That's sounds like something I would do (frosting in the ear).   Having the Cookies might help you keep up with Cal.

Well folks.   Now that the baking marathons are completed today starts the cleaning marathons.  Looks like I am having 17 for Christmas dinner.   So need to clean the place at least enough that the dust balls don't start flying thru the air with all the commotion....LOL>

I've got to go finish my laundry and do some candy making....I am so far behind this year, I can't believe it.  Last night our local casino treated me and my DH to a scrumptious dinner as a thank you for my patronage this year.  They even had a gift for me...a beautiful set of 4 wine glasses and a snowman cookie jar.  Now I just need to bake cookies to fill up the cookie jar.   It does pay to be a VIP sometimes.

Right now I am at work waiting for 4 more hours so I can go home and sew.  I need to finish me UFO's so I can start on my bargello quilt.  That is something that I have been looking forward to doing.  When I finish all my lap quilts, I will put them all on ebay.  Right now I just have to wait.

Nana, I think we live in a paralell universe. If you come and dust for me, too,  I'd be eternally grateful.  I just scrubbed the shower (Hard water - ick!) and potty. Next up is mopping the floors. They have cookie dough and frosting on 'em (I'd better check. Might be some in ears here, too! I know some ended up in my hair.).  So far as I know we'll only have 8 for dinner, but that's supbject to change on the whims of my guys. Hubby bought another 23 lb pturkidactyl for the feast, so there will be plenty to feed any who grace my door.

So glad no snow this Christmas. Last yr was first white Christmas here in like 50 yrs, was pretty as we stayed home. Grands are doing fashion show with their new outfits. And they are asking for pieroges again!!! I will have to buy stock in the company!!

msplantladi:
Congrats on your new baby...I was wondering Thea wouldn't mind sharing her advise on the stabilizers as that's my weakest area w/ machine embroidery

Dee, i had tried every single stabilizer out there... I took the classes that my LQS offered and we did the heat away, cut away, tear away, and sulky wash away... I have rolls of all of them... I know each is for a different type of embroidery that you are going to do - but I don't like any of them... I was doing thread angels once and was using sulky heavy stabilizer the one that looks like thick plastic... first I used one piece - nope it tore away on the edges and I couldn't make the angel - so I tried 2 pieces - still didn't work - so I did 3 pieces - it worked but it still tore a little away at some of the corners - and it upset me - I thought that there has to be a stabilizer out that that you only have to use 1 piece...

Each of the different types I tried - it seemed that I had to use more then 1 piece... so one day i was searching on the internet for some water soluble stabilizer and ran across a product called Vilene - none of my friends had ever heard of it - so I ordered some - when I first ordered it you could only buy it by the yard - 33" wide - now you can get any size you want - I usually buy it by the 11' width and about 25 yards... I use it for a lot of things - some of my appliques I have found work well with it.... but i digress

Vilene is an opaque water soluble stabilizer - I used it to make 1 of my angels and 1 piece was all I needed - it washes out very nicely and your embroidery is very soft...

So that was the advice I gave Barbara... The LQS will teach you all the different types of stabilizer - mine made you buy a roll of each one - I have lots of rolls that some day I will finally use up - not sure when as I really like the Vilene to embroider with - I can hoop it and lay a quilt block on top so that I don't have to get the creases in it and stitch and it is fantastic...

I believe I buy it from www.allstitch.net .  they have a lot of embroidery stuff and fairly good on the prices.

There are a few new stabilizers out there that I haven't tried yet as I found Vilene and decided since it worked so well for me that I didn't need to add to my pile of stabilizers that I don't use... Someday I'll have a garage sale and I'll sell them all... one day!  All those things that I have bought cuz they looked interesting - well they will all be in the garage sale - plus a couple of these extra sewing machines I have..teehee

Today is a much better day - although I didn't get much sleep last night - guess all the sleep I got Sunday afternoon and Monday over did me for last night... or the amount of Dr P i had while we were playing pool... I started out so well on Sunday - went to church - was great - came home and was violently ill about an hour later - then just exhausted - was that way all day Monday - spent both days in my chair or in bed... good thing I had made stew for Jay to eat - then he finished off the chili last night as I stayed in my chair all day yesterday knowing i had to play pool last night...

What a night - played probably the best team in the league - I did pretty good - only missed my average by 3 balls... One game was awesome - beat the guy 11-4 - he was so mad wouldn't congratulate me - sore loser - but I had to make a backwards bank - where you have to hit the ball with the cue ball and then hope the cue ball gets out of the way so the ball goes where you want it to go - can't tell you the # of times I have tried this only to not be able to do it - but this time was perfect and Of course I got excited ...lol and said ... Did you see that awesome BANK shot...lol went on to have to make another simple bank - although as DH says no bank is simple but I made it and then shot the 8 ball in - whoo hooo - did I get excited... Went on to win my last game 9-6 - I had of course lost my first game 0-15 so I ended up doing okay for the bad start... But came home and was still so hyped could not go to sleep and when I finally did woke very early...

So am staying quiet still today and watching what I eat - stomach is still not real happy with me...lol

I did work some on my DWR today - sewing the rows together is not a quick enterprise - so am doing a little and resting... you can't just pin the whole row and sew - doesn't work that way - well didn't work that way for me - someone else might be able to - but I am trying very hard to have all my points perfect and to do that have decided that sewing each small section by itself is the best way... I doubt I'll be done with it today but I might get close...

So that is where I am at...

vilene sounds like the stabilizer i used on the golf quilt.  it is very thick and wshes away.  i was doing free hand thread painting so i doubled it.  worked great
