I do a lot of chain stitching when I am piecing and love the time it saves me but I was frustrated at how long it took to cut them apart. So, I took an extra seam ripper, removed the top and stuffed it point side up into an old wooden spool and bingo! I had a chain stitch cutter. It works great and I made several for friends who still tell me how much they appreciate this tool.

i think i need a picture,   do you leave it standing up and run the threads over it?  seems like it would fall over.  or is the spool a big handle,  i'm confused.   i use the rotary cutter instead of scissors and it goes pretty fast, you just touch the thread to the cutter and they come apart quickly.     gini

I saw a device that holds a razor blade for this purpose at a quilt show.  I grabbed a sales pamphlet thinking I could have DH build one.  I should go look for that...

I am with you Gini, I can't seem to get a Mind Eye image of this.  It sounds like a great time saver if I could see how it is suppose to sit and where.

I'll post a picture tomorrow. We are in the middle of some very bad thunderstorms right now.
