Marie:

Diane, I'm glad you had a decadent day, sounds wonderful!  And you deserve it.

Have you found a home for the parrots yet?  How are you doing with the prednisone?

Marie~

We needed a day like this today. Just relax and take the day off. It did us a world of good. We haven't done much with the parrots. We've put out some feelers to bird people that we know but no takers yet. We can't just bring them to a humane society or sell them on Craigs List....it has to be some one who is familiar with birds. We've had them since they were hatchlings and hand fed them and raised them. Another tough decision to make.

The Prednisone is working good. I'm getting my energy back, breathing good, concentration and thinking is much better, eating again and food tastes good. Dr. C. will probably up my dosage that I have been on. He has to find the balance point so I don't get all the adverse side affects. It's all part of the roller coaster ride! lol

What did I do today? I spent my first day at work at our LQS, and I had a ball. I even learned to use the computerized cash register. A piece of cake. I spent all morning cutting FQ's tho. Not going to get rich doing this, and will probably spend all my earnings and then some, but it will get me out of the house once a week. And keep up my social skills. When you spend years serving others in the health field, and then suddenly you are retired, you really need something to keep being social, otherwise I could become a hermit.                       Elaine

It sounds like we need to get out the bubble wrap again.  Hope there are no serious injuries.  And hopefully no soccer balls in the teeth...

That is one of the biggest hurdles that I had to deal with when I had to go on disability.   It was so hard not to have people to take care of and all the families to interact with.   I have become more involved with my church and am taking classes to be a Stephen's Minister.  After I have completed classes I will be able to start helping people again.  I think it will be very rewarding.

Nana, will this one be the first machine applique for you.  I was thinking hand applique because I could do it while I'm watching TV.  At that time of the day I'm too tired to be at the sewing machine but like to keep my hands busy.

Elaine, it sounds like your 1st day went well.  I'm not sure working at a quilt shop would be a good idea for me LOL.  I hear you about the hermit bit.  I tend to spend way too much time at home all alone, although I enjoy it I probably should try to get out and about more.

I actually do more machine applique than I do hand.   My fingers and hands tend to go numb if I do much hand work.

Spudgrandma:
maybe you should get a helmet and padding before another bike ride.

i had my helmet on and heaven knows i have plenty of padding.   i got to soak in the swimming pool with two screaming kids does that count.?    the soccer game was fun, no balls in the teeth, however my DD grabbed my sweater so i half froze.   tomorrow is another day.

It is sunny out this morning and I am preparing for the day!  It has been sunny out for the last 3 days in the morning and then wham - the clouds and the storms come - the area is still riddled with downed limbs - have to get motivated this afternoon and go out and pile them up again...

I have my cat blocks to work on for Chicago but am now debating whether I am going to go - I do want to meet people from here but with Jodie not going to be there it dampens my enthusiasm... I wanted to play with my old friend and although it is easy here to talk to people I am a very shy person in person... Jay wants me to go though so still have it on the burner...

I have to redo all my fabric lists though as 2 of the classes I was going to take have been cancelled... so those fabrics bought will go in the stash pile - hoping not to have to buy anything else if I go - that I will be able to pull stuff from my stash...

Decisions Decisions!!!  It is a very long drive there and back and am so not sure!  Not hurrying into this decision though...

Today!  I will work on the cat blocks some more - now that all the applique is done should be quick sailing to finish them... and am working on my Quiltoholic Shirt... have 5 designs embroidered on it... it is going to be so cute!!!

Well, breakfast is over... hoping the pain subsides so i can get moving shortly...

Althea,

Sorry your spirits have been dampened on the Chicago trip.  I know how you feel as I don't like going to quilt shows and such by myself.  In fact I've never gone to one by myself.  Always have had at least two or three other quilting buddies with me.  I wouldn't say that I am shy as I will start up a conversation with anyone, but I have anxiety if I am by myself.  Maybe you will find someone else to meet up with you if you still decide to go?  Sorry about your classes being cancelled too, that's a bummer!

Today I am working on finishing up a new purse pattern I'm trying out and making some more wine coasters to sell at 1st Fridays downtown this evening.  It is raining right now here FINALLY and we have needed rain so very badlly.  If it continues I won't be able to set up downtown this evening.  I won't complain about that though as we are very much in need of the rain.

Elaine~

Oh, a job in a LQS. A little piece (pun intended) of heaven. I am very home bound and it's the interaction and socializing that I miss most. I can fill my day very quickly with what I do at home and quilting, too but I miss the people. QCA has been such a blessing to me. I'm even animated again. It's our nature to be with others so this sounds perfect for you. Have fun. learn lots of new things and start building the addition to your home for the stash inventory increase! Good luck with your job and enjoy.
