When tracing your applique pieces on freezer paper, copy them right side up. Instead of ironing them on, glue them with some temporary adhesize then cut out without seam allowance. Cut fabric WITH seam allowance, then iron the edges to the sticky side of the freezer paper. It keeps it's shape and is easier to applique.

Here's a really great marking pencil that was recommended by Sue Nickels when I took a class from recently- I really love these pencils.
