I am sure you all have many different preferences for batting but there is so much out there I am a little confused about what is best and what is not good. What is your favorite batting? I think I want to go with one of the natural battings for the quilt I am working on but I want something on the heavy side. Does anyone have a recommendation?
Denise:And I found it a bit too thin for my personal liking.
I use Warm & Natural all the time and I love it. Warmth is not an issue here, so thin batting is preferable. I started using Warm & Natural and liked it so well that I have not tried anything new since then. I'm not saying other battings wouldn't win me over, but I have found no reason to look for anything else.
Nana: I love Quilter's Dream but also use Warm and Natural when it is on sale at JoAnn's. Quilter's Dream feels like fleece and is so soft and warm and so easy to quilt on.

Where do you buy Quilters Dream? I looked at Batt-Matt but it looks like all rolls or large cases. I'd like to try it but just get a king size package. Can you order it that way?

I have not actually looked for quilter's dream online. I buy mine at the LQS. I do think you can go online to Quilter's Dream website and they have a place that you can find who carries the product. I think I have seen it at some of the online shops but I can't remember which ones. You might try www.virginiaquilter.com. Quilter's Dream is a Virginia based company and alot of the store here stock it.

waving to you!
If you can only get it at the LQS, is it alot more expensive than Warm & Natural? There is a list of sites that sell the batting but I only looked at a couple online and they seemed to sell in bulk. I don't want to have a lot on hand and it just sits there. Though I do stock up on hej Warm & Natural when it's on sale. Do you buy it by the bolt or a package?
I buy it by the package. And no it isn't really anymore expensive then some of the others.
Click the link in the above post for Virginia Quilter. They sell Quilter's Dream by the package. I like the select weight.

I have to agree with you on Warm and Natural --I find it too thin& linty also. The problem is I have lots of it becuz my beginning quilting class at LQS recommended it. I will be using it for wall hanging etc. Live and learn.
I love Dream Cotton and agree w/ Nana-its snuggly I think she said-plus I love to quilt on it.

I used Quilters Dream Cotton for the first time on Maggie's quilt and love it. I bought the packages and got three so I would have enough to get a good start. I needed 4 more to finish the grands quilts and called the LQS and they do not carry it anymore so I ordered from Batt Mart (my first order from them) I ordered a case (6) so will have two left over to use for something else. I think it cost about the same as locally. Its too bad I would really like to shop locally when I can.

I am glad that you like Quilter's Dream. It is a really nice batting. I have been using the Quilter's Dream Green recently and really like it too. It isn't cotton of course but I do like the idea that they are using recycled material. They make it out of plastic bottles. It feels just like their cotton batting and drapes beautifully. Very inexpensive in comparison to cotton batts.
I just put a soy-based batt in a wall hanging. I was given a bunch of stuff. It sheds a lot out of the package, so I had to stuff it back in the package until I was ready to use it. It has wonderful drape, very nice hand feel. Maybe not the best choice for a wall hanging, but I wanted to try it out. I'll have to look lout for more of it and see how expensive it is

Nana I[ve been using this Dream green batting since I started quilting ,three years now,WOW I can't believe what I've learned in those three years .thanks all of you,,,anyway I love it , and it washes really well and is so nice to work with . I have some of the cotton batting that was given to me and I can tell a big difference when using it . Barbara
EAT!! SLEEP !! QUILT!!
I use Warm and Natural for most of my quilts, for kennel quilts I sometimes use old blankets (the thin poly kind that almost look like batting). For potholders, table runners and some wall hangings I like the stiffness and safety features of Insulbrite.
Has anyone tried the Hobbs brand - any stories to share. I was thinking of giving it a try.
Nitchals
Haven't seen you for awhile. I have tried the Hobbs brand but wasn't very impressed. I know that others use it and like it. I didn't think it was as soft as Quilter's Dream or Warm & Natural.
I agree with Nana on the Hobbs, it is not as soft as W&N or Quilters Dream and Quilters Dream is the softest.
Spud I agree. Quilter's Dream is the softest and nicest batting that I have used. It feels like a piece of fleece and drapes so beautifully.
