For the December episode we will be showing off gifts for quilters. Any suggestions? (i.e. What do YOU want to receive or give for the holidays?)
~Jodie
This year for our quilt group members I am making little teddy bears using fabric that is like a cheaters cloth looking like little quilted squares on it. I am tying a ribbon around the neck with a tag naming it Thread Bear. I have to make 40 of them. Last year I made tree ornaments from yo yo's... in the shape of a Christmas Tree. I had 3 sizes of yo yo's ... using 1 large, 2 medium and one small yo you and placing a bell at the top to tie a bow around it. They came out so cute. Hope this helps.
Quilting supplies are always a great gift. My family usually fills my stocking with thread, curved safety pins, straight pins, needles and gift certificates to my favorite quilt shop. A gift certificate for a massage is a great gift, very useful after a marathon quilting session :-) Other quilt related gifts would be books by Jennifer Chiaverini and Earlene Fowler. That's all I can think of for now.
Jodie, I think your little duck quilter figurine is the greatest. My DH gives me a figurine from Jim Shore every year - I have a collection of his cats, snowmen and angels...
Now, my greatest gift that I could receive would be a new sewing machine that was the top model on the market and did everything perfectly... then lessons to go with it... and a stash of material for all the quilts I want to make...
A quilting cruise... now there would be a gift.
Or if someone wanted to make me a quilt - just for me - I would love it.
Now, if you can't do any of those - a gift certificate to buy fabric for a new quilt is nice.
Send your favourite quilter on a retreat or a day at the spa.
A bundle of fat quarters!!

Jodie, I'm always looking for those unique gifts or notions for my sewing room. I've been looking for a quilters clock but have yet to find one that I like. I bought those scissor pals for my quilting friends last year for X-mas. They are little charms that attach to your scissors or rotary cutters so they don't get mixed up with someone elses.(scissorpals.com) I also like the little needle minders so you don't misplace your needle or the lanyards for your scissors. Let's see, there are also pin cushions, books, bookmarks, journals...............................! I found a nice web sit for quilting gifts. quiltersgiftshop.com check it out cute stuff!
My sister received a clock for Christmas last year that was acrylic and you made your own quilt block to put in it. But I don't remember where it came from. I will try to find out from her. As for what I like to get as a quilting gift, there is always books, fat quarters, gift certificates. My friends and I sometimes exchange mini quilts that we make.

Gift certificats, fat 1/4, new gadgets are always really nice!
Life is like a quilt...bits & pieces, joy -and- sorrow, stitched with love
Unique notions would be great! I love to receive fat quarters or jelly rolls. Maybe even a quilt kit.
Somebody surprise me with that sewing machine that I drool over....lol
I'm getting the BEST christmas gift. My parents are sending me to spend a long weekend with my paternal grandmother. I'm just learning how to quilt, and my grandmother has been making gorgeous quilts for years. She lives in Maryland, and I live here in Texas, so I haven't been able to really spend a lot of time with her in recent years. So, Mom and Dad are sending me up there for some good one on one time with my grandparents, and grandmother has promised to teach me how to quilt! In my opinion, there's just not a better christmas gift out there!

I would really love for Christmas;
Sewing with my Mom in Iowa (we live in VA) - this might happen if we have enough time when visiting my family (of course this consists of about 50 or so people so sometimes time is limited)
Quilters retreat - I have never been on one but they seem like fun!
Coasters - I can use them at work or at home
Gifts cards! No one can have enough fabric! =0)
Anything that is handmade - shows the care, love, and time that someone worked on something for you

I am giving my quilting friends a fat quarter pack of the entire line of In the Beginning Fabric's line titled Housework Whenever by Sharon Yenter. It is adorable! Who can't relate to the sentiments on this colorful fabric, including my favorite: "A clean house is the sign of a broken sewing machine"!
