Monaluna is a small, independent organic fabric company operating out of a 100-year-old farmhouse in Walnut Creek, CA. The company is owned and operated by Jennifer Moore and her husband Dave Miguelucci, with assistance and inspiration from their 2-year-old daughter Anabelle.

Monaluna was started in 2010 by Jennifer, a designer and textile artist, out of a desire to bring more sustainable alternatives to the fabric marketplace. The company started small, but has been growing steadily, and is now producing 4-6 new collections per year.

All of the Monaluna collections are now GOTS-certified, which ensures that the fabrics meet strict environmental standards as well as being safely and equitably produced. The designs are printed on premium cotton with a high thread-count, which gives them an exceptionally soft and high-quality hand.

Monaluna fabrics are characterized by a graphic and modern style, and are often whimsical and humorous. After years in the children’s market, working for companies like Manhattan Toy and Pottery Barn Kids, Jennifer creates designs that are very appropriate for children, but which can cross over to adult projects as well.

Jennifer draws her inspiration from travels and nature, as well as the daily life around her. The last collection, Havana, was inspired by a coffee table book of Cuban cars, Jennifer’s trusty blue scooter and the birdlife in California’s bay area. The newest collection, Modern Home, features the family cat Sadie on her sofa perch, a design inspired by Jennifer’s Chemex coffee pot, and llamas sparked by a pair that the couple had at their 2007 vineyard wedding.

The National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky

The largest quilt and fiber art museum in the world, the National Quilt Museum showcases breathtaking exhibitions in nearly 30,000 square feet of contemporary gallery space. Visitors from every continent and all 50 states marvel at the artistry of the Museum’s 320-piece collection of contemporary quilts and ever changing touring and thematic exhibitions that celebrate traditional and nontraditional quiltmaking methods. The Museum collection features a vast array of fiber art by internationally renowned quilt artists including French quilter Inge Mardal, Shirley P. Kelley and Sue Benner.

Expanding the vision and advancing the art, the Museum seeks to educate, promote and honor today’s quiltmaker. Workshops taught by expert instructors including Diane Gaudynski, Pat Holly, Sharon Schamber and Denyse Schmidt provide diverse learning opportunities for quilters of all skill sets. Youth education programs including annual School Block Challenge and Quilt Camp nurture a new generation of fiber artists.

The St. Louis Post Dispatch praised the Museum, noting that “it’s not that different than going to the art museum in Chicago...it's all so unexpected.” The Museum has also received praise in dozens of national publications including Forbes, The Wall Street Journal and Southern Living.
