Spotlight on Maywood Studio: Winners Announced

Beauty by design ~ Fabric that inspires

Since 1995, Maywood Studio has been delighting the quilters, crafters, clothiers and specialty manufacturers with beautiful cotton prints in an ever-changing range of themes. Sometimes traditional, sometimes contemporary but always beautifully surprising.

Maywood Studio fabrics can be found exclusively in quality conscious independent quilt and fabric retail stores throughout the world.

Win one of three gorgeous quilt kits!

"Rosey Ribbons" features fabric from the Garden of Enchantment collection. Value: $91.50

This decadent collection delivers the gorgeous romantic florals Maywood Studio is known for, and then adds even more to love. First, rich black and creamy tan grounds cradle rose garden blooms and wild flowers in the large scale main allovers. Next, an antique bird toile in a range of color choices is added for a classic, breezy feel, and swirling filigree butterflies contrast beautifully for a feminine modern edge. Finally, tonal scrolling and floral mixers join just-right dots in coordinating with the group's lush border stripe. This is Maywood classic beauty at its best.

"Snowed In" features fabric from the Fresh Fallen Snow collection. Value: $135.00

Designed by Kris Lammers
The queen of the winter scene charms once again with her most delightful designs yet. Here cozy cottages, nestled among fir trees, frozen ponds and fallen snow, lend a beautiful sense of depth and movement in the main winter scenic print. Sweet birds alight the limbs of trees and snowmen in whimsical large scale prints, while a fun scenic stripe offers lots to explore, like icicles, snow covered gates and a secluded winter park scene. Coordinates of lacy snow flakes, striking stripes, icy swirls and pretty mini geos are the perfect blenders to compliment Kris' signature illustrative style.

"Winter Cabins" features fabric from the Winter Palace Flannel collection. Value: $140.00

Big & bold winter roses are softened by ice-creamy color and plush flannel in this group's luscious main floral, contrasting perfectly against its surprising counterpart--a richly colored paisley damask. In between, the group offers a lovely array of designs for coordinates, including delicate butterfly lace, snow flake medallions, dots & striping as well as floral blenders in sprays, allovers and tonals. This pretty collection reflects both rustic and modern influences while remaining classic, lending wide appeal, especially in cozy bedding projects.

The woolies would provide the opportunity to explore designs using colour and texture with a rich palette of hues. I love the handling qualities of wool and the durability and warmth are further pluses. This fabric would also combine well with stitcheries and embellishments. Something beautiful is just around the corner from this collection.

I thought I would go with something in prints, but I simply loved SHADOW PLAY.  I love the wide variety of colors but also the diversity.  A quilt could be made just using those fabrics, but they also would be perfect for mixing in with other fabrics in my blocks, because they would be easy to match up with any prints, florals, stripes, or even solids.  They would actually be perfect for the quilt I am making now where each block is different.

I am having a tough time choosing between them!  I think Dandelion Delight is my overall favorite collection because of it's large mix of different-sized prints, patterns, and coordinating solids, giving the quilter a substantial number of combinations to work with.  Ice Garden Flannel comes in a close second for the same reason, and for it's combination of warm and cool color choices.  With this collection one could easily go from warm and cozy to bright and bold.

I first fell in love with the 'Fresh Fallen Snow' as this fabric reminded me of the wonderful memories I had when I resided in 'snow' country; however, once I saw 'Memories if Love', it was definitely love as I instantly thought of my grandparent's home as they had similar wallpaper in the bedroom I slept in.  Therefore, Memories of Love is for me!

It's so hard to pick a favorite, they are all so beautiful, and I could quilt or sew with any collection. But If I have to choose one, no two...I'd pick Woolie Flannels, I just love the colorways and prints. They could be used in endless ways. And as an alternate choice I'd have to choose the Wild Rose collection...so romantic and...what was that wild, bright quilt I saw! This too, is an exceptional collection with endless possibilities. Choosing a favorite from such beautiful kits is a challenge, however, I would choose Winter Cabins since the combination of pink and green has long been a favorite.  Back in the 70's when I was doing more garment construction than quilting (which is what I do now), one the outfits I constructed was in hot pink, green, and white (striped coat) with a pink dress---I even had a purse and shoes in pink to match!  Kits like these can certainly eliminate the guess work of what coordinates for a beautiful end result.

Sitting in my Alaskan cabin, I can see not-so-distant mountaintops with that first dusting of autumn snow that we call "termination dust".   I love your luscious roses and floral patterns. I have a quilt in the planning from Kaffe Fassett's book "Country Garden Quilts".Your patterns from Rhapsody in Bloom , Memories of Love, and Wild Rose are perfect for his interpretation of the Snow Ball pattern.

"Fresh Fallen Snow" is also perfect for fussy cuts to use in my holiday quilts and Christmas stockings.

My pick is Garden of Enchantment.  The colors are rich and the collection's patterns offer much texture.  I love the option of stripes to counterbalance the florals.  I had already purchased the Memories of Love because of the summery florals and stripes.  Compliments to the designers.

My favorite kit is "Snowed In." Living in the far north of Wisconsin's beautiful Northwoods, being "Snowed In" is not unusual for us, be it from snow or cold. Awaking in the morning to -20 or -30 degrees is the norm, but the sun shining on beautiful, glittery snow-covered pine boughs is breathtaking!  Our unsalted roads and the crunch of snow under the car tires reminds us of the crunch of our boots as we pulled our sleds back up the hill as children. And there is nothing as exciting as the first snow of the season...sometimes in October. I've seen the lake ice break up as late as early May. This makes the winter very long, indeed. Being "Snowed In" is a joy, especially if you have no place you must be. The security of a cabin, be it log or not, gives a sense of security from the out of doors. The coziness of a fire in the fireplace creates the perfect condition for baking chocolate chip cookies or...of course...QUILTING!

I love the Fresh Fallen Snow collection.  I live in Canada, and unfortunately, we have more cold day's then warm day's.  We do have warm/rainy/road construction periods, but for the most part, the colder weather out weighs the warmer.  Over the years, I have grown to love the colder periods, as it is easier to warm up then cool done, and as a result I love winter scene's where all is frozen and snow covered.  The snow makes everything crisp and clean looking, and your Fresh Fallen Snow collection reminds me of the colder months.

13 going on thirty is so bright and cheery and inspiring.  I'm already planning to make a quilt for my sister who is turning 32 in December and just moved from California to New Jersey to attend Drew Theological University working towards a double masters degree.  She is finding herself quite homesick and I thought the bright cheery colors would remind her just how much we lover her. Thanks for the great giveaway! Good luck to everyone!

I love the "Memories of Love" line of fabrics.  They remind me of the quilts that my grandmother made for me and my little sister (the pink is so appropriate because she died of breast CA).  I know that is not one of the choices that's listed, so of the 3 above, I like "Garden of Enchantment" best.  Not only are roses my favorite flowers, but my youngest went to elementary school in Valley of Enchantment, CA.  It is a small hamlet, 90 miles east of Los Angeles, in the San Bernardino Mountains.  I would make this quilt for our youngest so she can have special quilt memories just like I do.

I love 13 GOING ON THIRTY, granted I have since passed those years..but I love the whimsy of the collection and the bold color...and white and black contrast. The  pheasants are lovely in their brightness coupled with a playful floral pattern.  It is something that a young woman would aspire towards...and believe herself to be mature and grown..smiles.

"Memories of Love" ... This may sound a bit morbid, it's not meant to be but I've been thinking of sewing a quilt with roses in it to give to my step-dad (86 yrs. old) for him to enjoy now but when he passes, to use it in rememberance of his love of roses.  He always had the most beautiful roses growing when I lived at home.  He can no longer garden and he always wants me to take him to the local rose gardens.  He is very special to me.  He was the first man that I ever cried on his shoulder and I was 15.  I felt loved and secure.

I am sentimentally drawn to "Are We There Yet?" When I was eight years old, the youngest of four, my parents took us on a journey from our home in S. CA through 39 states and a bit of Canada. "Are we there yet?" was the constant hopeful refrain we children tossed at our parents from the crowded backseat.

The fabric brings back a great many wonderful memories and some, "Oh, my gosh! How did they <my parents> manage to do that?"

I am a summer-lover at heart; it's my favorite time of year!! The Rosey Ribbons collection is the perfect answer to our l-o-n-g, icy winters here in Upstate, New York!! The lush, deep, vibrant colors in brilliant jewel-toned reds and pinks, deep verdant greens, set off with cream and dark accents have been translated almost magically to fabric, and can cast a spell bringing to mind the intoxicatingly fragrant days of my summer rose garden! Regardless of the snowy landscape here in the frigid north as our seeming-endless winters march on, Rosey Ribbons celebrates all the beauty of sun-drenched days, reminding me that there is indeed a summer to come!  The skies may be gray now and snow may fall, but wrapped in a quilt created using the opulent Rosey Ribbons floral collection and surrounded by rose garden blooms, wildflowers, birds, and butterflies I can fall asleep and dream of an endless summer!

The Rosey Ribbons Collection is my favorite.  It's so bright and cheerful, and would light up any room in the house.  Everyday would seem like spring.  I could see this quilt laying at the foot of my bed and know it would make me smile even in the darkest days of winter!

I love the Shadow Play collection.  It's always amazing to see how beautiful quilts can be when made of solid fabrics.

I like the Rosey Ribbon design the best.  All the flower collection is great but the ribbons are wonderful.

I'm getting ready to do a Halloween quilt and the Hallowen Classics collection along with some Simpatico dots will be just perfect. Can't wait to get started!

I really like Dandelion Dreams.  The muted colors are so soothing.  I love greens and browns together and the apricot adds just the right amount of warmth.  There are  great coordinates to add contrast to the large motifs, and who can resist a bold bias stripe!

Rosey Ribbons is my favorite.  Although I love them all.  Any would be a joy to winn.  The red and black in the Rosey Ribbons just stands out to me though.

I love the Wild Rose Collection and Wild Rose Basics that go with it. It is just so feminine and light, it would be so friendly and soft in my bedroom, make me feel pampered and pretty.

Woolies! Woolies! Woolies!  I am partial to cuddly fabrics this time of year and am using all mink-like, cuddle fabrics as backings for anything that doesn't go on a wall or bed (baby quilt, lap quilts, throws).  I will look for these woolies as they will give the great tactile quality I am looking for.

Maywood always has such beautiful collections! It's really hard to choose just one. The Wild Rose Collection is absolutely wonderful but then they all are.

It's difficult to decide but I think I can see the Wild Rose Collection in my bedroom.  It is just so dreamy.

I love them all - but I would have to choose Garden of Enchantment because I have a "thing" for florals, birds, butterflies & antiques!  Plus the colors would so beautify my master bedroom.

I can't decide between SHADOW PLAY FLANNEL and WOOLIES FLANNEL.  Both would make soft warm quilts for a winter evening; especially for the men in my family.

Wow! Hard to pick just one. I love the Fresh Fallen Snow and Floral Fusion, and the Hallowe'en collection is great, too, but I guess my favourite is the Blue Roses

Love the Winter White Flannels the florals remind me of the flannel jammies my Mom had made for me and how cozy they were.

Rosey Ribbons would be my favorite.  I've recently begun my hand at rose gardening, and this collection fits right in.

Maywood's "Garden of Enchantment" collection is exquisite.  I love the gorgeous, classic florals and the beautiful colors.  They would be so much fun to use in a quilt.

My vote is for Enchanted Rainforest. Love the color combo - it is different from most of the other fabric lines out there.

And living in the Mid West, preparing for fall/ winter, anything about non-wintry works for me! Thanks so much!

I love the snowed in collection.  When I was young we lived in a hollerand when it snowed you were snowed in. The  snow on the hills that surrounded our house was breathtaking

We would go and slide on the frozen creek(crick).  We would find the biggest icicles to eat. We don't have the snow like we used to so I would love to make a quilt out of the Snowed In collection, it would flood me with memories while making it and after the quilt was finished.

Winter, fireplaces, hot cider, family, my grandsons, flannel quilts, these make  a perfect day spent withthose I love the most. This is because of the love my parents bestowed upon myself and my sister and brothers. Roses where my mother's favorite and Winter Palace Flannel collection brings all of these things to my mind. It would be such a delight to win a kit. Making and then using the quilt to keep warm while enjoying my favorite things listed above would be a joy form above.

Memories of Provence is the collection I most admire.  Stylized flowers, rich colors, a detailed striped border fabric - what more could you want other than the sunshine and outdoor cafes!

I love Snowed In because I love winter fabric.  I grew up in PA but have lived in TX for 30 years and I miss the snow, building snowmen, watching the individual flakes fall silently down on Christmas Eve, and sled riding.

The Rosey Ribbon collection is so romantic that I would love to make a quilt out of it for our 40th wedding anniversary.  I am a romantic at heart so something that could please both of us would be such a joy.
