I am TRULY humbled by all your kind comments...thank you SO MUCH! I do have great news. I went to my mailbox today and there was a letter from the quilt show I entered this quilt into. I GOT JURIED IN! My FIRST show ever! I'm so excited! I have to drop off the quilt on Nov. 4 for judging. I don't even care if I win anything, just to be juried in is a THRILL! I'll be all goosebumps to see my quilt hanging there with all the others!

Jerry, this is absolutely amazing!  My husband is impressed beyond measure as am I.  What a stunningly beautiful quilt!  Did you use variegated thread in the bobbin or did you quilt it with the back up?  OK, I just looked back at your post - metallics on top (?) & variegated in the bobbin (?). The effect is wonderful :-)  I'm rooting for you to win & I will be shocked if you don't.  Thank you so much for sharing this treasure with us :-)

Annette, the show I am now in is part of the World Quilt Show which will be in West Palm Beach, Florida. They are holding a separate Florida state-wide competition in conjuction with the World show. I have to say, if anyone can come to this show, it is truly amazing! I went last year and the quilts just blew me away in their colors, techniques, and overall effect. There were probably 500 quilts on display! It's a GREAT chance to see what some of the quilters from around the world are doing. Some of the Japanese quilts were unbelieveable! One quilt from Germany had 50,000 swarovski crystals on it...amazing! It's very cool to see what fabrics they have available to them and how they think and put things together. The show goes on tour and it ends in Florida so check the Mancuso Quilt Show website to see if a show is coming to your area...it's truly worth seeing!

Annette, also, the back will have a 4" sleeve and a fabric label with my name on address on it which will cover up some of the quilting. It's part of the rules. I know judges look at both sides of the quilt so I"m sure they'll see what I did on the back and look beyond the label and sleeve. Plus, I'd rather cover up some quilting than be disqualified! lol

UPDATE:

Well, the show ended on two days ago. I didn't win and didn't ribbon in any category. The judges said it was a beautiful piece and loved the coloring, but didn't like the big jewelry findings in the four corners. They said they were too big for this piece. Oh well...

I was just honored to be juried in. I'm thinking of re-making this quilt only with more detail and bigger. Bigger is better at shows!

Jerry, could you explain how you quilted the front and back?  Did you do this separately?  I am a new quilter so your explanation would help.

MNnancy...thank you SO much. You are very kind to say so!

Patty...In the bobbin I used the same thread as I did on the top. As I quilted, the design came out on the back. I used a solid back so the quilting would show. When you do this, you have to be careful that your tension is very even top and bottom. If you want to try this, I suggest doing a sample. Use a piece of fabric from your quilt top, your batting of choice, and your choice of backing fabric. This "sandwich" only needs to be about 8 x 10. Then pick the thread you want to use, set up your machine and practice on this sample. That way you can check your tension front and back easily. I do a sample like this before quilting any quilt. It's really helpful when using odd threads like metallics, monofilaments, polyesters...etc.

Sometimes these odd threads can play tricks on your tension and it's better to find out on a sample than halfway through your quilt!

Also, WELCOME to the world of quilting. It's a very rewarding hobby, or in my case...passion! I would be VERY happy to help you and/or answer any questions you might have! Ask away!

Can't imagine the hours of thought that went into the planning at each stage of production of this quilt, much less the hours of sewing. It's beauty is immeasurable. I have never been to a quilt show.  is it typical to add findings to quilts?  i never have i just rely on the top and the quilting.  not for a moment that i do anything even close to this calibre.  Absolutely amazing.

do you think they'll ever get spell check on these sites?  

Wow.....this deserves to win prizes.....it is so nice.....I have yet to enter shows as I am busy long arm quilting for everyone else....Someday I will take the holiday I need and spend it in the studio just doing my stuff....Kudo's to you for all the work and the calibre of work you did on this work of art.

WOW!  Your quilt has Pow power!  How long did this creation of art take you to accomplish?  I am in the crib (infant) stage with my quilting.  You have inspired me to keep muttling through the mistakes to create something better.  

Well I don't agree with the judges at all; your quilt is absolutely gorgeous in every way.  I'm truly impresssed with how your quilting created such an incredible design on the back; you could use it as a top it's so dramatic.  Keep at it and don't let the turkeys get you down.
