Batik Circles

Well I'm pretty darn proud of myself - I finished my second quilt this year!  For the past few years It seems I've been accumulating quilt tops but procrastinating on the quilting.  I've decided to just bite the bullet and finish them because as they say, "it's not a quilt till it's quilted."  At first I wasn't very happy with the quilt, the circles got lost in the background too much but after I finished the quilting (a diamond grid in the circles and a close stipple in the background) they popped.  Much happier with it now. 

This quilt was inspired by Elisa Wilson's book Crazy Curves.  I started it 4 years ago as a wedding gift for my sister.  Needless to say I did not get it done on time and after meeting the guy am glad I didn't.  Without getting into gorey details, the marriage went bad.  She is now getting married again, this time to a great guy and I'm wondering whether or not it's bad karma to give it to her now.  I'll have to think about it.

Congratulations on finishing your quilt, Betty; especially now, since your sister's first marriage didn't work out.  

---- happens.  If she wasn't expecting it then, it would still be a lovely gift for her second marriage.  Or, maybe a table runner in case she changes her mind again.  You never know.  :):)

Betty congratulations on getting your quilt finished.  I think it is stunning.  Love the circles and the batiks.  Gorgeous.

Beautiful!!!  I agree with Patricia -- there is a reason you did not get it finished in time for the first marriage -- now that it is finished you should give it to your sister.

Betty, I think your quilt is absolutely stunning! What a great job you did with the fabric selection and placement. BRAVO for a job well done! I’m with Patricia & Gramma Di, you were not meant to finish it in time for your sister’s first marriage. I say, give it to her for this second one. I know if I was her, I would be deeply touched by such a special gift from the heart!

GORGEOUS!...One of a kind.  You should be very proud of this.   I've done the 'circles' before, but I would call it a 'drunkard's path'.  Mine was very traditional.  I just bought some batiks and haven't decided on a pattern yet.   I've never done an all batiks quilt.  This might be a really good choice for me too.   Thanks for sharing.

Bravo Betty!  It's beautiful.  I am especially fond of it because I am working on the very same quilt at this time - slightly different shades of batiks.  Did you know the Crazy Curves book is now out of print?  Would love to see a close up of your quilting for ideas as I'm sure I'll have the same situation with circles blending in.  I think your sister will love this!

I'd say if the guy makes her happy gve it to them. Quilts represent where we are at a certain place in our lives and no matter the outcome she will remember you being there for her. IT BEAUTIFUL EITHER WAY.

Kudos to you Betty,  The quilt is gorgeous, and love the batik's in it.  I would think your sister will be touched with such a beautiful quilt, and joy for you if this second is a keeper, and definitely for her!!

Spectacular!!  I've seen this pattern and have been afraid to attempt it.  Piecing circles looks so difficult to me.  I must get over that because I really want to make this quilt!

Betty, I just bought this book and wanted to make this pattern with blacks and whites with a little pink somewhere.  Want to give it to my neice for her college graduation next year.

Betty,  I was sitting here looking at all the beautiful quilts on the Show and Tell pages and when I saw yours I just wanted to write and say God Bless your for having the patience to sew all those curved seams.  The quilt is beautiful
