"Bargello Quilt" by Pam

I did it!  I finally finished the bargello quilt for my sister.  In the border are six blocks with old photos of my sister printed on them.  On the binding I machine embroidered "Happy Birthdays Paula 2008, 2009, 2010.  Love Pam."  On the back of the binding I machine embroidered "Cold water gentle wash, no detergent, dry flat", because I know my sister will forget any instructions I give her.  It took me 3 years to get it completed.  I "unsewed" three rows of quilting once because I decided I didn't like the batting.  After I changed out the batting to a bamboo cotton needled batting I managed to get it finished......finally.

While I'm really glad it's done I am reluctant to give it away.  There are many, many mistakes on it, but my sister won't care because #1:  she's not a sewer and #2:  there's lots of love in it.  This is the largest quilt I've made.  My previous endeavors were doll and baby quilts.  Thank you all for all the encouragement you gave me.  While I have many quilt projects in mind my next project is jammies for my granddaughter.

Nice!   - I feel like we have something in common having just finished my first bargello too.  You wouldn't think simple squares would be so frustrating at times.  Now you're ready for even bigger challenges.  :)

Beutiful bagello Pam! Colors are really great and pictures in the border add such a wonderful touch - lucky sister!!

Do you know that there is also a bargello variation where you DON'T have to match seams? Rows are "dropped" for a half-square, not the whole one (so every other "ring" is opened by cutting through the middle of the square, not by unsewing the seam). Therefore no seams to match! That is how I first leaned it and it IS easier, but with the same effect. :-)

Beautiful bargello, Pam.  I made a lap size several years ago in a 4 week class and we finished the top in that 4 weeks!  My teacher was a slave driver.  You did a great job and the colors are very pretty.  WTG!
