"Hooah!" for Carlo from Kris Douglas

A co-worker of mine, upon learning that I'm a quilter, commissioned me to make him a quilt from his Army uniforms. At the time I agreed to make it I had no idea how I would go about doing this but I wasn't
worried until he delivered the raw materials. All the uniforms were intact!

Kris,

I would have been so intimidated to see that pile and someone expecting me to do something with it.  You did a fantastic job.  Thanks to Carlo for his service to our great country.  Thank you for sharing the quilt with us.

I love this quilt!  It can be mind boggling to see all the clothes in tact...I know, I have done several memory quilts from clothing.  I love what you did with this one Kris!

Thanks everyone for the great comments. I really liked the quilt when it was done. It was worth all the work when I saw how happy it made him.

I can see by the look on his face, and the way he's holding it to get the best photo that he was thrilled with the beautiful job you did. God Bless you both. Him for serving our Country and you for putting his memory together for him. Your quilt has given me inspiration for my Brother, that is a newly retired Air Force Col. Thanks for sharing.

Momma_of_3, i don't think you can see it but his name tags and all unit patches are on the quilt. The "backwards" American flag is on there as well. The label on back also has an american flag. I even left some pockets in it. So I guess it is a memory quilt.

Kris,  What a wonderful gift to a well deserving young man!!  Great job of using all that pile of uniforms.  Being the wife of a retired air force guy, I fully understand  and can appreciate the emotional ties to those uniforms.  Thanks so much for sharing!!

I like that you left some pockets and etc. on the quilt. What a wonderful thing you have done for one of our service men. Thank you to both of you for the gift of yourselves. May God bless and keep you both

Memory quilts are such a wonderful way for us to commit a piece of ourselves to thank someone who has already given so much.  Wonderful design and use of fabrics.  The Log Cabin pattern lets him know that he was in a service for "home".

Kris, fantastic job!  It's great to see the results of your work!  And thanks to Carlo for proudly wearing those uniforms! I just finished a quilt for my son, a former Army EOD guy, and I never thought of using his uniforms.

Thank you Carlo for serving our country - Your quilt is absolutely wonderful - I don't think I could have tackled that project.  I burned all my uniforms when I retired.  I was so tired of wearing green camoflage every day... We had a great big bomfire...

I was proud to serve my country and I am sure that Carlo will love his quilt - that would have been a better thing to do with them...

GREAT JOB...

Althea I felt the same way. I didn't burn my uniforms though, I gave them to my neighbour who was looking for some old work clothes. We still have all my husband's uniforms though and his mother wants me to make something with them.

Kris, What a wonderful gift for a service man.  Now he doesn't have to waste space in his closet or drawers and can see his memories anytime.  Good design too.  Thanks for sharing.

Oh I kind of know what you went threw. I had someone give me and another quilter 2 big bags of baby garments. It was hard to get any size of fabric cut from them and they were all different fabrics and it was a task.

You did a great job! It looks as if you just went out and bought fabric and planned it all out just so.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  You did a great job.   What a memorable thing you did for one of our greatest heros.  Sports people are NOT heros, tv and movie stars are NOT heros.   The men and women of all our armed forces are the heros our country.  Our children should be looking up to all of them.

Thank you for your hard work and dedication from a VietNam veteran's wife.

Thank you for the honor you gave to one who has served. I will keep this idea in mind as my one and only grandson serves in the army...he will complete his second year in January 2010.
