The Joys (and an Unsung Hero) of TV Taping...

I'm in Des Moines taping the latest series of Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting. It's the 1700 series, chock full of fantastic content and sweet projects. Mom and I are having a blast.

We were in the middle of filming an episode on Thursday and I had a revelation. I was holding a rotary cutter, smiling for the camera when I realized, "Woah. I get to work with my mom." Obviously, I have been aware that I've been working with my mom for several years now, but it hit me last week how truly fortunate I am to be able to do that. It's not something most people do. Mom and I get along so well and our energy is through the roof when we're together. The shows have been easy as pie and I'm excited for everyone to check them out.

And speaking of checking stuff out, I snapped a picture of one of the unsung heroes of the TV set: The countdown clock. Without this little guy, we would have no way to determine how long we have left in the episode. It's a backstage implement that we would be lost without.

Way to go, clock.

I am glad to see another posting to your blog.  Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it.  I know what you mean about working with your mother, except I'm the mother side.  I have a daughter that is very creative, and together we can really be energetic.  Keep up the good work...you and your mother. I am sure she is very excited to be working with you.

It's interesting that I arrived at this blog tonight, because today while I was sewing I was thinking about my mother. She died in 2002 and I miss her very much. I so enjoy watching you and your mother on PBS. One of the greatest gifts from my mother was teaching me to sew. I cannot imagine my life without sewing. I have been sewing for many years, but just started quilting seven years ago and absolutely love it.  Keep up the good work and thanks so much for your programs.

It is such a nice thing to work with your Mom if you get along with her and you can see the chemistry between the two of you is wonderful!  so much of the love comes through.

I was lucky enough to meet your Mom in Chicago and she is one cute chick -

I was a very lucky woman in that my Mom taught me all the crafts from the time I was very little - I can never remember not knowing how to do them and my Mom made it very easy to learn.

I am looking forward to seeing this next season of shows!

God bless,

Thea

Perhaps you are already done taping the next season of shows, but if not. . .

The scarves you sometimes wear are pretty but I'm worried that they might be dangerous while sewing. At the very least, you might sew an end into your quilt!
