Hi Quilters!

Today at the Cabin : And this week, more rain and less sunshine. This is crazy. Most of the garden is in, so the rain is good, maybe we could arrange so the rain stays on the garden side of the house and I get sunshine in the front yard. Anyone with me? Oh yeah, I also spent a lot of time this morning dismantling the ducting in the basement as a kitten had fallen down the vent and gotten stuck in there. Life on the farm is NEVER boring!

This week select patterns from Joan Hawley's Lazy Girl Designs line are on sale.

DVD of the Week....

Chelsea Tote Technique

The Chelsea Tote is a great combination that can be used as a tote bag or backpack. Made for that "girl on the go" that likes a little versatility, it has the space to hold all of your valuables. Wear over your shoulder with one strap, or unzip the strap and have a cute backpack. Any standard zipper will work and using Lazy Girl's trademark, "No Fear" technique for putting in zippers, the process will be a breeze. Makes a great travel bag and an even better gift idea.

and Lazy Girl Tips and TechniquesDVD

This handy 60 minute DVD features a collection of demonstrations that Joan Hawley has done while appearing on the TV show Kaye's Quilting Friends. 7 techniques to help make your Lazy Girl projects a success.

Q and A From Kaye....

Q: If piecing is ok, should the seams be sewn down so the rod doesn't get caught while being inserted? If they should be sewn down, should the seams be pressed open first, or to one side?

K: Press seams to one side. Insert rod from the opposite side or sew down seam allowances.

Q: Is there a rule of thumb on what color of thread to use for the quilt top? I have never made a quilt and I am not sure what color of thread to use. The quilt top is in various colors of blues, greens and reds, with small amounts of beige.

K: Use gray for dark, beige or off white to piece light colors.

Q: Is there a guideline on how to figure the width of the sashing or binding to go on a quilt? For example, if there are 9 inch squares and 12 squares, what is the size of the binding that would go in between each one to make a wall hanging? Is there a formula for figuring this out?

K: Your sashing should be no wider than the size of the squares, and binding can be any width. It all depends on how you want it to look. If your sashing is wider than your squares, it tends to overcome your design a bit. When it comes to your border, sometimes a wider one pulls your design together more and accentuates your design. Your best bet is to lay it out before sewing them on. Try different widths and see how it looks with your squares. When you find one that work with it and is appealing to you, go with it.

Emily's No Problem Quilt

Kaye says; "If you have cruised to the Caribbean, you have probably heard someone say, "No problem, mon.".When I heard this in response to a question I asked, I thought it meant that I didn't have to worry and that they would take care of it for me. No, that's not what it means. It means, "They don't care, and why should you." But how does this apply to a quilt pattern? Sometimes we need to de-stress our lives, and a No-Problem pattern can help us to do that. It means that there is virtually nothing you can do wrong while doing this quilt. It is called a No Problem quilt! This is a great Pointless Project because there are no points to match and your seam allowances don't have to be perfect. It also is fun for using up your scraps or fat quarters. Make a memory quilt: Take this colorful, fun quilt to school or camp and have your friends autograph the blocks!"

Quilter's Thread Library Organizer

This notebook styled fabric organizer has a finished size of 9" x 11" x 2" when closed and 18" x 11" when open. Ideal for appliquers. Holds 72 spools of Metrosene or Gutermann sized spools.

This handy organizer allows you to access each spool individually while seeing your whole collection at one time. Each spool is held securely in place with an elastic band, regardless of the amount of thread left on the spool.

Velcro closure.

Regular price is $8.00, on sale for $5.00!
