Pinwheel Potholders
If you cook, these are pot holders; if you don't cook, they are kitchen quilts.
A pinwheel quilt block is made from four rectangle squares. make two different pot holders with plain backs, or use one of the potholders for the front and one for the back.
The segments in each of the blocks are made the same, but the sewing steps are different.

More On Buttons....
Legend has it that buttons on men's jacket sleeves date back tothe time of Napoleon Bonaparte. He wanted the men's uniforms to stay clean, and so to keep the men from wiping their noses on their sleeves (yuck!), he ordered buttons sewn over the top of the cuffs. With time the look became fashionable and carried over to civilians' jackets, with the buttons moved to the side.
Sharon says.... What I have always been told is that the reason the buttons were fastened different for men and women was that women rode side saddle and always had their right side toward the front of the horse and the wind didn't blow into the clothes/coat with the right side over the left. Men it didn't matter....
The zipper was desgined in 1893 by Whitcomb Judson to end the tedium of buttoning shoes and boots. It was soon adapted for skirts and trousers.

Show 'N Tell....

I want to show you a group of young quilters. I wrote a grant with the CO. Quilting Council for 6 kids to make the Rail Fence Lap top quilt design. To be held at the Erie Arts Coalition, Erie, CO.
So we had 6 kids ages from 6 to 9 working 3 mornings on their lap top quilt (of course they did their own thing).
They were introduced to quilting which was my reason for having class. They had such a good time and the last day they wrapped their quilts around themselves and danced around the room. It was so neat. Just wanted to share these lovely kids and their quilts!....Ann
Submit your creations to us. We'll put them on our Show 'N Tell page and in the newsletter! Be sure to send a picture as well as the story behind your quilt, wallhanging, tablerunner, or....

Q and A With Kaye....
Q: If I put a wall hanging in the kitchen area, what is the best way to try and keep it clean?
K: If it were me, I would use Scotch Guard on it before hanging.
Q: After cutting my strips with a rotary cutter, I notice that they bow in the middle. How can I prevent this?
K: Fold the strips in half and cut at right angles to the fold. You have to check them constantly and make sure the angles are accurate.
Q: Do you sell your products internationally?
K: Yes, we ship anywhere in the world. Contact us with what you want to order and we'll get you a shipping quote.

Q: Why can't we get your shows on TV anymore
K: We aren't producting TV shows anymore, they are simply too expensive, so all of our shows are on our YouTube Channel!
Shirley says: Mother made we 3 girls everything we wore in the 1930's, some cut out of donated garments and coats for the material left in them. She did it on a Singer table top machine which I still have, lid in tact. Not sure it's a cast iron as I haven't looked at it in some years. I still recall the day she ran the needle through her finger while lovingly working on one of our dresses. All I know is it was used as if on a production line. It will eventually pass on to one of my daughters who is a quilter and a talented seamstress. Reading about the awful destruction of the old models described by one of your correspondents triggered my thoughts about mother's machine which I cherish along with all the memories. What a sad story about one of the world's most famous names in the home sewing industry.
Have a great week, everyone!
And thanks so much for following us on Pinterest!
We've seen so many great ideas!
