What's New....

  • Tips and Humor From Kaye....

Shopping at the Topless Beach in Martinique!

No, I did not go topless!

But you should see the pictures that our husbands took while trying to be really casual and shooting from the hip as they walked along.

You actually can buy bathing suits at the beach. A saleswoman carried a basket full of bathing suits. If you picked out the suit you liked, she would take off her suit to model the one you picked out. Funny thing was, the suits were all made the same, the only difference was the color. And, the people picking out suits for her to model were mostly men. Go figure!

  • Fashion Trends and The Economy

Have you ever noticed that women's fashion tends to reflect the state of the economy? During the late 1930's and early 40's (stock market crash and war time), garments were trim, utilitarian, and constructed to conserve material. The fifties brought poodle skirts, Donna Reed type dresses, crinolines and a plethora of sweaters. As the economy grows, so do our garments (look at the eighties - big EVERYTHING!!), and as it recesses our clothing follows. (What were you or some of your family members wearing during the Vietnam War?). Designs have once again become simpler. Makes us wonder if the designers are onto some secret we haven't figured out yet.....Lynette Rio.

    Fun Facts For July

According to the Gregorian calendar, July is the seventh month. On the Roman calendar, it was the fifth month and it was called 'Quintilis', meaning 'fifth'. Julius Caesar gave the month 31 days in 46 B.C. The Roman Senate named it 'Julius', in honor of Caesar.

July is usually the hottest month of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. July is one of the winter months in the Southern Hemisphere. The climate is mild in most of the Southern Hemisphere, with the exception of the COLD Antarctica, and the cold, rainy part of South America.

During July, when there isn't much rain, the grass often loses it's greenness. Some flowers are abundant in July, because they thrive on the heat. Also, insects (mosquitos!) are abundant as well - life is thriving in July!

    Show 'N Tell....

Thought perhaps Kaye would like to see half of my quilt using her instruction on You Tube. I used the Starmaker 8 and 45 degree line to make the two part divider strips. Each hexagon was changed to a square from watching her technique. This is my first quilt and it is half way there in about 4 days. Will use her technique for flying geese down the center of the two halves once I repeat this again and then flying geese on both sides flying in opposite direction. I was careful with all the bias edges too just like she teaches. What a great instrucor. Looking forward to getting my next box of rulers. Thanks, Kaye....Bev

Submit your creations to us. We'll put them on our Show 'N Tell page and in the newsletter! Be sure to send a picture as well as the story behind your quilt, wallhanging, tablerunner, or....

    send them to terrye@kayewood.com?subject="show-n-tell"
