Hi to the Quilters in Alaska
August in Alaska is terrific. Those of you who haven't been to Fairbanks would be surprised at how warm it gets, sometimes in the 80's. I have been told by experts that the Fairbanks area is the hottest and the coldest place in Alaska, but I am not going to be there when it is the coldest.

My seminar day in Fairbanks is August 23, 2011, at the Fairbanks Princess Hotel. The price is only $45, which includes the day-long seminar and lunch. We are also working on setting up a seminar day in Anchorage; watch the website for more details.

During the seminar, you will see what's new! You've seen me strip my quilts on TV on Kaye's Quilting Friends. Now watch me strip in person.
Making quilts can be easier than you think with my original techniques.
There will be something for everyone-beginner to more advanced. Something for the Pointless and the Pointed people!
Lots of ideas for that next project!
Learn to eliminate the slow-downs in quiltmaking.

I will also share some of the funny stories that have happened to me on the road to quilting.

This Week on KayeWoodTV.com!

Is it a quilt or a game board? It's both and you can have twice the fun, as you quilt it and then play the games with your family when it's done. Pattern instructions include how to makes curves without curved piecing, perfect intersections, and how to take those squares to your sewing machine in one piece.

Pre-printed fusible interfacing, enough for one quilt, and instructions for playing the games are also provided.

Our Reader's Show and Tell....

This quilt is a Madagascar print with green sashing and velvet cornerstones. It has freemotion topstitching. It was made for my great niece Suribrielle. She was born last September 2010....Jacqueline

I was asked to make this quilt for my daughter's best friend. Her mom's mom had died and the fabric in this quilt was from all her "retirement home" polyester dresses. Almost all the fabrics had shades of purple or rose in them. When my daughter's girlfriend picked up the quilt she burst into tears. Her gramma's name was Rose. She gave the quilt to her mom and it has a special place in their home, and lots of memories. Bottom line, a very ugly quilt can hold more beauty than one could imagine....Maureen

Reader's Hints, Tips and Techniques....

I have found pipe cleaners to be essential in cleaning my machine. I especially like the heavier ones used for craft projects. They collect most dust and fibers wherever found in the machine. They even work well around the feed dogs when they are lowered, or the throat plate is removed....Jean

I've made several quilts and have learned 3 key steps: 1. measure twice, cut once 2. you cannot overpin 3. always iron your seams as you go. Your projects will always have a professional look to them....Gloria

Kaye On TV....

We get a lot of phone calls and emails asking where to find Kaye on their TV. The simple answer is we don't know, (sorry). Here's what to do. Call your PBS, cable and satellite providers and ask them. If they don't show it, ask them to add it to their lineup. Our shows are called Kaye's Quilting Friends and Quilting The Kaye Wood Way.

I've Learned....

There are people who love you dearly, but just don't know how to show it.
Money is a lousy way of keeping score.
Learning to forgive takes practice.
Sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you're down, will be the ones to help you get back up.
You should never tell a child their dreams aren't possible, for what a tragedy it would be if they believed it.
Your best friend and you can do anything or nothing and still have the best time.
It isn't always enough to be forgiven, sometimes you have to learn to forgive yourself.

I think that's all for this week. Have a great week. Hope to see you in Alaska in August!
