Allie Aller is Crazy for Crazy Quilts!

It may be dreary and cold outside, but Quilt Out Loud! found the top get crafty shop in the City of Brotherly Love to open the show. Surrounded by bright, modern cotton fabrics for quilting, garment and home dec sewing, Jodie and Mark play catch-up showing what they’ve been up to. Jodie visits with of Pam Mahshie of Baby Lock demonstrating the amazing drawing tablet attached to their sewing machine. Just draw on the tablet and it will come right up on the screen and stitch for you.

Mark meets up with Allie Aller, a renowned crazy quilter, in the weaving room at the Newark Museum. A traditional quilter before being bitten by the crazy quilting bug in 2001, Allies Amazon top-selling definitive book is Allie Aller’s Crazy Quilting – Modern Piecing and Embellishing Techniques for Joyful Stitching.

Overwhelmed by the craziness of crazy quilting? Allie Aller boils it down for Jodie into a simple block, which she repeats to make a quilt. Allie shows Jodie how she chooses fabrics, prepares for sewing, and sews - even curved seams- while making a block. Then, Jodie and Mark meet back up at Spool in the shop’s workroom for their book review and quilt show of sample quilts featured in the books.

A Day at Keepsake Quilting on Quilt Out Loud!

What better place to be for Christmas than the place with the most goodies for quilters? Jodie and Mark are at Keepsake Quilting, America’s favorite quilt shop, located in Center Harbor, New Hampshire.

The shop is huge and boasts over 13,000 bolts of fabric and best of all, Christmas is up all year.

Deb Comeau gives Mark the five-cent tour showing all the fabrics, kits, notions, books plus gifts for sale. We see why Keepsake Quilting is a destination for quilters from around the country and the world!

Quilt Borders Easily with Linda Thielfoldt!

Linda Thielfoldt of The Quilted Goose shows how to easily quilt borders.

When working with borders think of motifs as blocks that can be connected rather than entire border designs. Stippling ties the border “blocks” together.

Linda has developed several rulers for borders that are drawn around rather than sewn around available through Quilters Rule. She reminds us to have fun; the stitching doesn’t have to be perfect.

Learn Paper Piecing With Carol Doak on Quilt Out Loud!

Learn paper piecing the Carol Doak way!

Jodie joins Carol Doak in her studio for a sewing session.

They work on a simple heart design block with just seven pieces.

The design is printed on Carol’s foundation paper that goes through any home printer.

Then it’s back to Al’s Seafood for Jodie and Mark’s book review including some of Carol’s books, and a show of quilts.

I'm off to Salt Lake City to the dream sewing studio at Handi Quilter to shoot six more epsiodes of Quilt It! The Longarm Quilting Show.

This weekend we're taping six more segments! My guests this round join a growing list of stars. I am always amazed at their talent and knowledge when we shoot!

Theo and Loes Van Der Heuden from Art and Stitch are going to show us how easy it is to use their design software. Not only do you not need to be able to draw, but the learning curve is so short you can draw, save, and move your first drawing over to the quilting system in ten minutes! I've seen them do a demo, so I know this is true. I can't wait for you all to see it work. Oh, and you can save the files for use on any computerzed machine.

Judy Lyon is going to be all decked out to present her episode on the secret ingredient to your quilt: pantographs and pictograms. She'll talk about threads and paint, and tell the stories of the quilting designs for several quilts. Can't wait to see her quilts which sound like a lot of fun.

Linda Thielfoldt will zero in on three topics: Borders, faux feathers, and where to start with wearble art. She has a lot of information planned to pack into the show. And samples to show, which we all love!

Debby Brown's epsiode will be all about circles. You have the templates, what to do with them? She'll show how to stitch creative coils, clamshells and curved cros-hatch. Swags too!

Debbi Trevino is all about batting. She has researched batting and tested every brand she could get eher hands on. She will share her wisdom and send you to her free Ultimate Batting Chart so you can make educated choices for your quilts.

Lisa Calle has a cure for Quilting Agoraphobia. It's what happens when you break into a cold sweat when faced with open areas needing to be quilted. Her cure is to divide and design. I'm sure intrigued!

These new episodes will begin airing in October. They will finish up our second season of Quilt It! The Longarm Quilting Show!

Mark and Jodie Unleashed! (On the Radio)

We'll be reminiscing about our first year hosting "Quilt Out Loud!"

It has been quite an adventure, which we realized a we prepared for the last Christmas show. And we have truly become great friends through it all, even if Mark is brutal in making fun of me. (Just like a grade school boy!)

Quilt Out Loud Taping: New Author Cheryl Lynch

Last weekend was such fun! Mark and I met so many wonderful people, including new That Patchwork Place author Cheryl Lynch.

Inspired by tiles she saw on a trip to Mexico, Cheryl ended up turning tile designs into quilt blocks into quilts into a book!

Our visit with Cheryl in the grain milling room at Prallsville Mill will air in the November episode of "Quilt Out Loud!".

"Quilt Out Loud!" at Quilts in the Mill This Friday!

Our first stop this weekend while taping the next episodes of "Quilt Out Loud!" will be at the Courthouse Quilter's semi-annual show, Quilts in the Mill, held at the Prallsville Mill. I hear it's a tremendous location for a quilt show. Dawn Golden, President of the guild has worked with me to come up with a informative and fun-filled episode. I'll keep reminding the camera guys: "The more quilts the better!"

Author Cheryl Lynch is going to stop by to show the quilts in her book "Quilt Fiesta" and even bring some in different fabrics that didn't make it into the book. In the afternoon we're heading off for a doorknock. Beware Pennsylvania quilters!

My entry for the New From Old contest (YOU CAN WIN A HANDI QUILTER SIT DOWN MACHINE!) in it's first stages. Have the background quilted. And am getting ready to make the appliques. You can see the inspiration quilt at the top right. I made it for the current episode of Quilt Out Loud.

It shouldn't take long; the requirement is a 16" quilt. The deadline is the end of the month, so hurry up and make one and maybe you can win some amazing prizes!

What a perfect place to hold MQX, the Machine Quilters Exposition. (And a whole lot more!)

While there I will be conducting some interviews for Quilters Save Our Stories, an oral history project of the Alliance for American Quilts. To get an idea of what I'll be up to, visit the Q.S.O.S. site. Thanks Handi Quilter for sponsoring the transcribing, etc. to turn the interviews into web content.

All this and I get to visit with my sis in my home state. Happiness!
