QSOS at the Georgia Quilt Show

Amy Milne, Executive Director (she does a great job!) of the Alliance for American Quilts ,and I are with one of the quilters we interviewed for QSOS (Quilters Save Our Stories) at the Georgia Quilt Show. This weekend I'll be conducting live interviews for the oral history project Q.S.O.S. (Quilters Save Our Stories) at the Georgia Quilt Show in Duluth. These will be taped live on stage and after transcription will be available online at the Alliance for American Quilts. (In fact go and read some now. New entries include Ricky Tims' dad who is a quiltmaker!) And, they will be archived in the Library of Congress. Check here to see when I'll be conducting interviews.

New From Old Contest Entires-Check Out These Quilts!

There were over 100 entires in the New From Old contest that benefits the Alliance for American Quilts.

My entry for the New From Old contest (YOU CAN WIN A HANDI QUILTER SIT DOWN MACHINE!) in it's first stages. Have the background quilted. And am getting ready to make the appliques. You can see the inspiration quilt at the top right. I made it for the current episode of Quilt Out Loud.

It shouldn't take long; the requirement is a 16" quilt. The deadline is the end of the month, so hurry up and make one and maybe you can win some amazing prizes!

This Week: Machine Quilting, Oral Histories and COTTON!

What a perfect place to hold MQX, the Machine Quilters Exposition. (And a whole lot more!)

While there I will be conducting some interviews for Quilters Save Our Stories, an oral history project of the Alliance for American Quilts. To get an idea of what I'll be up to, visit the Q.S.O.S. site. Thanks Handi Quilter for sponsoring the transcribing, etc. to turn the interviews into web content.

All this and I get to visit with my sis in my home state. Happiness!

The theme of this year's Alliance for American Quilts fundraiser is "New From Old. " I wasworking on the block-of-the-month

the other day thinking about what I might make for my 16" quilt for the auction and started eyeing my scrap hampers. Hum, I sure have some old scraps in there, and leftovers blcoks and pieces to quilts. I grabbed what was on the top and took a photo of it. A start...

Not only is this a great organization to support, and you only need make a smal quilt, but you can win a Handi Quilter 16 sit down longarm machine if you enter. Plus, your quilt will be exhibited at some major venues. plus it will be forever immortalized in the Library of Congress and online in the Quilt Index. It doesn't get much better than that!

Crazy for the International Quilt Study Center!

The Alliance for American Quilts held a Board meeting at the International Quilt Study Center in Lincoln, Nebraska in August. Wow! What a building; what a collection!

AAQ had just received entires for our Crazy for Quilts! contest. So it was quite a fun coincidence that IQSC had an exhibit of crazy quilts at the time.

While I couldn't take photos in the museum, Allie Aller brought one of hers with her, which is pictured above. You can search the IQSC collection for crazy quilts. It sure doesn't compare with seeing the quilts "in the thread", but to have them come to you is amazing!

Oh my goodness, I just went to Allie's blog. Look what I found:

Crazy For Quilts! It's Time for the Quilts

The next step in my Crazy for Quilts! project is to add in the quilts that are spinning around in my head. For them, I headed to my computer. I design in EQ6 and Corel Draw, so I pulled images from quilts in both and printed them out. Some are quilts that have come to fruition, such as the duckie quilt which was taped for a Love of Quilting episode, and others are still wanting to be made. When I was sure the size of the quilts was right I printed them onto printable fabric. Here I'm cutting them out and placing them on the quilt.
