Quilting in Mexico
Bienvenido! We moved to The Baja close to three years ago. Thanks to shopping on line, I am able to get the fabrics and tools I need down here. I am grateful to Timeless Treasures as they are the only quilt fabrics available here. One small rack of bolts, limited selection and never updated. I try to use on line sales, free shipping and traveling friends. You see down here, we use "gringo" mail services from California (they get the sales tax). So my free shipping applies only to the US. Then I pay for it to ship here to Cabo, plus invoice 20% to the service. Or....I have met some wonderful quilters who vacation or live here part-time, who will shop the States for me and bring it down on their trips.
Now...you make think of quilters as just blanket makers, but down here in Paradise...we don't need blankets. So I've adapted to making bed runners, lots and lots of bed runners ...lol. And love the usual table runners, lap quilts, quilts for the outdoor patio table, throw pillow covers and some new necessities that I hadn't thought of. By that I mean, you can't buy good thread count pillow cases, so have taken to making custom pillow cases. I love making tote bags out of charms and adapted them to wine bags. The wine bag holds two bottles for taking to parties and outings as well as delightful Hostess gifts. All dinner parties down here are BYOB.
