Inspiration and question...

I am posting a picture here. This is a little different than most pics you will view on this site. It is a picture of a carpet. This carpet was in the hallway of the hotel that I recently stayed in and as soon as I saw it, I fell in love with the design. I think it would make a great quilt. My question concerns copyrights. Do you think I am infringing on design copyrights if I actually copy the design in a quilt?

My granddaughter made this quilt completely on her own! I know you are probably tired of hearing about my 12-year-old granddaughter but she is my loyal quilting buddy. We have been sewing together since she was a toddler and she loves fabric and quilting. She decided to make a quilt for her cousin for Christmas and it needs to fit a toddler bed. She went shopping in our stash and came up with fabrics and her own design. What you see is her finished top. I'm also including some closeups of her pinwheel blocks. I can't believe her points!

Mmmmm... Hot chocolate chip cookies...

Had to take a sewing break to make cookies for my DH lunch this week. I don't think there's much in the world that can compare to hot chocolate chips straight from the oven with a tall glass of cold milk. I think my mother started this addiction before I could walk or talk!

My Cathedral Window is almost finished!!!

I have been working on this cathedral window quilt for almost 5 years. I started it on Thanksgiving weekend in 2004. It is done completely by hand -- not a machine stitch one to be found in the entire queen size quilt. I have half of the last 4x4 block finished and I WILL finish it before Thanksgiving this year. I am so thrilled!

I got a package from my granddaughter today. It was wrapped in beautiful Christmas wrapping paper with a huge tag that said "Open me NOW!" It was from my granddaughter who only lives 50 miles from me and I see her all the time. I was surprised to get a package from her. Well, I opened it and found a selection of beautiful fabrics in the richest purples and greens. On top was a note from Georgia Lynn telling me that she saw the fabric and knew it was made for me. She asked me to design a quilt for the fabric so she can make it for me for Christmas. I literally cried! (Tears are so not me.) My heart swelled with pride because I knew in that moment that I've done a great thing with my granddaughter. I've successfully passed the quilting passion on to the next generation.

I'm going to post pictures of this gorgeous fabric. I don't think they do justice to the colors, but I wanted to share them.

Halloween's over and now I can get back to my sewing!

Had a great time with the grandkids and got them back to their parents in one piece and without too much candy in 'emt\ to boot. Housework is all caught up and I'm going to do a little reading tonight before my early bedtime because I'm getting up early to spend an ENTIRE day in my studio tomorrow. Whoopee!

Housework isn't perfect but it's good enough...

And having the grandchildren for the evening was great! We sat around the table with our daughter and son-in-law, ate some junk food, just visited and laughed, had a general good time with several breaks to answer the doorbell for all the ghouls and goblins that found my doorbell. Gave away a whole 5 lb. bag of candy. For a town the size of Fosston, that's pretty good. Especially since we have lots of wet, yucky snow on the ground. We had lots of little spidermans and princesses decked out in coats and snowboots... too cute! We got to keep our grandkids for an overnight visit so we settled in to watch some tv and visit. The highlight of the visit will probably be the eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy and maybe even hashbrowns for Sunday breakfast. This is Grandpa and Christians's specialty!

Well housework MUST be done...

I'm afraid I have to make myself stay away from my sewing studio this afternoon. My poor house is covered in dust and with the recent snow my little dogs have left paw prints through my entire main floor so a-mopping I must go. And two of my grandchildren are coming for trick or treat so I am going to throw some kind of costume together to go out and around with them. But tomorrow is another day...

What a great excuse to hunker down for a full evening in my sewing studio! We've gotten about 4 inches so far today and it's supposed to snow all night. I tweaked my Design Challenge quilt last night and even printed out my foundation piecing patterns. I'm on my in to pick out some fabrics now.

I just found out that grandbaby number 12 is due in June! I'm over the moon! Number 11 is due in February. That one's a girl and her brothers and sister have already named her Mary Elizabeth. Since I currently have eight grandsons and two granddaughters, I'm kinda hoping for yet another girl! I've blogged about my oldest granddaughter, Georgia Lynn. She's an avid quilter, having been at my sewing machine since she was a small tot and for her 12th birthday this year, the two of us went on a four-day shop hop last August.

Well, just wanted to share my news... I think I'll check my stash for more baby fabrics now!

Design Challenge

Well, I've gotten into my EQ6 and designed a great quilt that I'm thinking of entering in the Design Challenge. I suppose I have to sew it up before I can enter it though. Do you think they'll just let me enter my EQ version?

I just don't know where to start. My hubby got my design wall up yesterday. I have three different projects in varying states of completion. I need to cut more Dear Jane blocks (my current hand-sewing project). I got myself so confused that I decided to check out QCA first and see what kind of inspiration I can glean.
